Well I think I told you ladies how completely stressed I was about money and a bunch of other stuff...paying for a new car, figuring out three carseats, This CRAZY explosion of debt we incurred in the last year because of all of my medical stuff, some work related purchases that were supposed to be reimbursed and werent etc. I was SO overwhelmed! I think I can finally let go and take it easy now...we have pushed and pushed and used some creative problem solving to take care of a bunch of the small stuff and my DH totally whipped a miracle out of nowhere and erased the rest of our problems!
My DH is a master mechanic in our area and a little while ago someone came into the shop with an 06 Durango that had a problem in the motor that was going to cost, like, a gazillion dollars to fix, because it billed for 24 hours worth of time and at $90/hr at my DHs dealership, there was no way the guy was going to pay that money. He tried to get a junk yard place to take it for parts, but the most they would give him for it, sight unseen, was $1000.
So my husband told him he'd give him $1250, plus he wouldn't have to worry about the bill he already had with the shop ($500), plus he wouldn't have to pay the shop to put it back together (another $500) and wouldn't have to tow it out of there and make practically nothing in the end selling it to a junk yard. The guy said yes!
So, we paid the guy $1250...the shop wiped out the bill the guy had and didn't make us pay it, which was sweet, we took the PT Cruiser my DH recently fixed up for $45 and a few hours of his time and sold it to a guy in recon...who paid us $1100, PLUS he is coming in on his day off this week to completely detail to like newness the Durango (complete with the shampooing, paint chip repair (which I don't think we even need) and the whole "works"...and then he is coming in on his day off next week to completely detail our Subaru, too.
So, we got a Dodge Durango with a KellyBlueBook value of $9500 (which has all the room we need) for about $250 total (plus my DH had to put in two full days of work on his days off to fix it). The car is in perfect condition and has a ridiculous trim level on it (what the hell is a TV-free mama gonna do with a DVD player in the back seat...with wireless headphones and everything!??) The AWESOME thing about this all, is that it means instead of using our tax refund money and the money we'll get from selling the Subaru (car I've been driving that's too small) to get our car situation squared away and pay SOME of our debts off....we'll be able to use ALL the money from our taxes and the Subaru we're selling and pay off ALLLLLL of our debts! We'll be starting from zero balance again and it'll be like that whole nasty year of sheer hell never happened! YAY! We'll even be able to pay for next years heat fuel this spring so that we don't have that cost coming up in the Fall!
I'm so pumped I can't stand it. The Durango would never have been my first choice for a car, because of it's gas mileage...but it's been getting 19mpg for us and the Subaru only gets 22mpg...plus the Subaru only takes premium gas, which is $0.45/gallon more expensive than the regular gas the Durango takes...so in the end, I'm really not going to notice a difference.
Here she is:
Ladies, I cannot even describe the level of stress I was feeling about all of this. The credit card we took out for the work tools DH needed had a zero percent interest rate and we were supposed to be reimbursed enough that we could pay it off...well we weren't and the interest rate JUMPED to 19.99% and it was so hard to pay and then we got trapped in a $300/WEEK health insurance premium because of my health issues and just all this stuff was piled on and we were in the red every month and my stress level was through the roof. I can't tell you how light I feel right now...I'm filled with a deep sense that everything is going to be okay now...we worked so hard to get all of this figured out and I'm just so completely tired from it all, but happy as a pig in shit to have that terrible, terrible year behind us.
Just sharing my relief and happy news!!
