My 8 yr old is having her birthday party tomorrow at a small swimming pool/waterslide venue. No lifeguard. At the most we are having 11 kids. A parent of four of the kids is swimming. I will be in the water with my 3 yr old and 5 yr old who can't swim. I recruited my dad to act as a lifeguard. My mom agreed to watch my 4 month old while I swim (dh is working).
Question: My mom offered ( to my sister) to take my 4 yr old nephew along who can't swim or touch the bottom. His older brother is coming too. She has a 2 yr old and 2 month old so doesn't want to be in the water or come along. I said no to this because he will be in the water with wings on and no designated adult in with him. The birthday girl likes him and would like him to be there.
Does that sound reasonable to refuse this? My sister is a lot more relaxed about safety issues. It is a very small hotel pool with one fast waterslide.
Also would your opinion change if they put a life-jacket on him?
