I'm titling this thread generally because I feel bad piggy-backing on other peoples name threads that have a specific question or concern.  I just want to throw some names out there and get opinions and please feel free to do the same.

We are on team green so I have boy and girl lists

Girl

Calo (also could be spelled Calloe or Callow)

Calla

Lucia

Ellen

Aralia or Aurelia (note, DS's name is Marcus, second note, I love this but DH doesn't)

Ever

We're kind of stuck on boy names.  I like the idea of having a Roman name but DH is so picky and doesn't really like any names.  He is only "ok" with all the names on the lists.  But he also never comes up with names himself.  He just shoots down most names I suggest. 

I guess I should also note that our last name has a slang word for a male anatomy part in it which completely rules out names such as Harry.  I didn't know if I would get flagged for typing out the actual word   Since DS and I both have M names I would like to stay away from that.

All suggestions and input is appreciated!  And please, post your own lists.

Well from your list, my vote goes to Lucia and Lucien. Love them both.

Eden - I'm pretty set on this as a first name if it is a girl, but my DH isn't totally on board

Winter - I love this name, but I really can't use any names that end in "er" because our last name ends that way, and when you say it together it sounds really funny.

FWIW, my DS's name is Jude, and he has two middle names- Arden William, and my DD's name is Emiko (Emi) Lee. I always like to take into consideration the siblings names, since not all names sound very good together.

I too am having a hard time with boys names.

Sorry I am not much help.

So far on our lists we have in order of love. Most are Serbian names.

Girls

Mila (pronounced Meila)

Lilly, Lilian or Liliana 

Bela (pronounced Bayla)

Boys

Vuk (pronounced VOOk) my family is not crazy about this and thinks it will lead to teasing but I love this name and it was the name my MIL almost called DH.

I really like Raine but DH doesn't

I would love any suggestions or input as well. I like the idea of Serbian names but it doesn't have to be. DS is named Julian our last name is Serbian and long and starts with an S also my names and DD (who died at birth) start with an S  so I would like to avoid S and J names.

I've picked my name, but I LOVE talking about names so I'll gladly weigh in on yours. 

Andthestars, I really like your Latin/Roman theme. Aurelia is my favorite girl name. I also think Roman Goddess names could be cool too, like Diana, Pallas, Proserpina/Persephone, Venus... I will say that I do not like Calo and it's variants, because of the word callow, meaning an adjective for immature. This is likely just a me thing though... For boy Latin names, I like what you've listed. Lucius is also my favorite. Just for kicks, because you seem to want a bigger list, what about Janus? Gaius? Cassius? (I really like this one). Claudius? Julius/Julian? Antony?

Swell Doula, from your list I really like Willow, Sage, and Eden. Too bad about Winter! If you're into a season name, you could go for June? From your boys list, Julian is my fave. 

Butterfly Mommy, I like Mila and Bela a  lot. I'm under the impression, though, that Bela is a boy's name? I like that name for a boy especially. Other geographic names I like from that area are Zigmund, Josef, Rendor, Sandor, Luka, Pravi, Sava, and Radmilo for boys and Mira, Nadia, Zahvala and Zora for girls.

We considered Calla. I think it's lovely. I also love Lucien (similar to Lucius) and Orion for a boy.

DH and I had a terrible time thinking of boy names. For that reason, I'm glad we're having a girl!

From your list, I really like Calla and Aurelia, and what Calycanth suggested--Lucien-- as a variation of Lucius.  I just think there would be less mis-pronounciation with Lucien.

I'm finding it hard to come up with boys names-- I really like the name Arlo, but a close friend of mine named her little guy that.  And even though she said she wouldn't mind us calling our baby that if it's a boy, I don't want to do that because it doesn't feel like the right thing to do. 

David Suzuki, a well-known Canadian scientist/environmentalist is someone I really admire-- one of his daughters is named Sariko-- which came to my mind when I read the name Emiko on here.

butterfly_mommy, I like Mila but also Mira and Zora.  I'm not a fan of Vuk but like Luka, Ivan and Goran (the actor who played Luka on ER )  I really love Ever but I think that DH is going to make me take it off the list.  Calla is the front-runner now but who knows what will happen.  When we looked back at our list after we had named DS, 'Marcus' we noticed that we had crossed it off the list at some point.

swelldoula, I like Eden, Willow and Winter.  I like Winter best of all but understand about the last name thing.  Maybe Willa?  For the boys names I like Orion and Julian.  I tried to get DH to put Julian/Julius on the list but he refused.

MovnMama, I like Cassius and Julius but see above.  I think DH vetoed Cassius also.  I'm telling you, the man is impossible.  I like Pallas alot too but I think that's another one that he vetoed.  Do you think that people would get the reference (and comment incessantly about it) if we had kids named Marcus and Aurelia?  Aurelia has been a favorite of mine for a long time but DH is opposed because he thinks that teenage boys will refer to her as "I'll rail ya"  I'm serious, these are the kinds of things I'm up against.  Another story...I love the name Wren for a girl but DH went to elementary school with a boy whose last name was Wren and he didn't like him so that means that we can't name a daughter that.  Sigh.  I also like the name Jasper but there is minor character on the Simpsons named Jasper so we can't do that either.  Double Sigh.   

Calycanth, your screen name always makes me smile because I used to work in a nursery and it always makes me think of Calycanthus which smells like strawberries.  Sorry, totally off topic.

Tenzin, I like Arlo but I wouldn't name a kid something that my friend named their kid, even if they did say it was ok.  Sariko makes me think of Sakura which I also kind of like...hmmm.

Coming back to add that the "I'll rail ya" thing made me LOL, because my DH says the same sort of things any time we have discussed daughter names! He vetoed both Eden and Layla because of off-the-wall things he thought teenage boys would say to her/about her. Daddies!

I don't think many people will get the Marcus Aurelius reference, but I guess it depends on your social circle. Teenagers will ALWAYS find a way to pervert a perfectly good name. Seriously, you can't win.

I like Eden, Hana, and Winter off your girl list and Orion, Issac, and Alexander off your boy list.  The name Emiko (Emi) Lee is super cute.

I think Vuk is an awesome name, I'd want to use it if I had reason to do so.  I don't know that he would get teased because of that name, there are so many different names out there right now.  Of your girl names, I like the Lilly ones the best.  I think it's probably because I'm not familiar with the pronunciations of the other names and I'm not as drawn to them as I am to Vuk.

Our current name list is pretty short.  DH is set on Hadley and I'm trying to convince him of Sadie.  I like Hadley, but I don't love it.

I'm back with two new names from our list...thoughts?

We were leaning towards Calla or Lucia but now Rhea and Eliza are good possibilities too.

The boy names haven't changed.

AndtheStars: I LOVE Aurelia. It reminds me of Eulalia, which I loved but DH vetoed (boo!). Evelyn is nice too. Rhea is kinda cool, but to be honest, my second immediate thought was of bodily fluids and STIs. For boys, I like Lucien. Might you also consider "Kelvin"? I knew a Kelvin and always liked the name.

swelldoula: My votes go to Eden and Julian.

butterfly_mommy: I really like Liliana personally. Also, Luka is lovely for a boy.

Has anyone else gone back and revised/redone their shortlist? We've narrowed it down to 2 potential girls names and 3 boys names, but I can't help but wonder if somewhere out there, the "perfect" name is eluding us... I think I might spend an hour or two coming up with another shortlist to consult with DH on...... Maybe I'm overcomplicating it...
