Those of you with a few kiddos (maybe 3 or more?)....labor question.... « Back to Group Discussions

And a baby size question.  Were your kids all about the same size when born?  Did they all come roughly around the same week?  Just curious. :)

My first was 8lb2, came at 41 weeks.

My second was 8lb9oz, came at 39 wks and a couple days

My third was 8lb7oz and came at 38 wks and a couple days

I had an u/s this week to check a kidney abnormality they found at 20 weeks (all looked good btw) and they did measurements and the OB commented...."oh, this one is so little!".  It was something like 34% according to them. Granted, with my 2nd I had a late u/s since she was breech and was told she was "maybe 7lb" and she was 8lb9, so I really don't put much stock in it.  But wondered, if no other variables change (I have had same diet and activity level and health for each pregnancy), what are the chances one baby comes out smaller, for no real reason?

1st 42 weeks, 8lbs2ozs

2nd 37 weeks, 7lbs7ozs

3rd 35 weeks, 6lbs14ozs

4th 36 weeks,7 lbs

5th 40 weeks, 8lbs8ozs

6th 38 weeks, 7bls6ozs

7th 39 weeks, 8lbs

This baby is measuring larger than any of my others, despite better eating(because of?) and excersize for the first time throughout pregnancy.So I guess I am no help lol...they all would have weighed about the same if they were born at the same gestational age(except my preemie,who would have been my biggest.)

First- 41+3d 7lbs 7oz
Second- 40+5d 8lbs 8oz
Third- 39+ 4d 8lbs 7oz

I ate way better with #2 and #3, which I'm sure had an impact on their size. I also had 4 long u/s's with my first and just 1 with my second, none with my third. I do wonder if that made a difference.

Hey DeChRi, did your babe have "excess fluid in the kidneys"?  That's what they told me at my 20ish week u/s.  Then I had a follow up around 32 weeks, but they of course haven't called me with the results.  So I'm hoping no news is good news.

First - 39 weeks - 8lbs. 12oz. - boy

Second - 42 weeks - 9 lbs. 6 oz. - girl

Third - 40 weeks - 10 lbs. 11 oz. - boy

I can't say from my own experience, since this will be my second, but I've heard typically that subsequent babies end up being bigger, but I've also heard that girls are typically smaller than boys, so I'm expecting that maybe for me they will work out to be about the same.

My first was 7lbs. 12oz at 40w3d and a boy. I'm expecting a girl this time.

Honestly though, u/s estimates are really just a bunch of guesswork. How does baby "feel" to you in comparison?

All of mine have been born just shy of 41 weeks. They've all been in the 8-9 lb range.

Yep...fetal renal dilation I think is what it was called?  Where the kidneys appeared to not be emptying correctly.  They said it almost always resolves itself.  It was in the "moderate" range at 20 weeks and looked good at 30 wks.  They said in 3rd trimester "mild" is 6-11mm I think, and this baby was 5mm.  So they said nothing to worry about.  I hope they call you soon!

Thanks for the replies.   :)  This is my only pregnancy I am not anxious to get over.  March is packed full of procedures for our two youngest (sleep study for 21 month old an hour away, 2 GI appts 3 hrs away and 2 scopes, 3 hours away) and I really need baby to stay put until mid-april.  I am due April 29th, but with the last one coming a couple days after 38wks, I am starting to get paranoid that this last one will come earlier.

If it could stick until about 41 weeks that would be awesome....maybe I can tap that out in morse code to baby??? ;-)

Given that mine is posterior and seems happy there.......I am hoping that when my 1 yr old and 4 yr old are constantly thumping on my belly, they really know baby morse code and are sending a message.  However, I am pretty sure they are plotting in advance, to overthrow me. :)

Ds1 was 41 weeks (but I was induced ...... so I am sure I would have went a week more) and weighed 9lbs. So he would have been bigger.

Ds2 was 42 weeks, and 9lb 7oz.

I am expecting about the same for this baby in the belly, but I have not gained as much weight as I did with my others, so maybe she will be smaller? I don't know

I once read that a study found that mamas (after the first baby) were more accurate at predicting baby size than doctors or u/s.  My son was induced at 41 wks- 7lbs, 15 oz. Through most of my second pregnancy, I said "this one will be the same size or a little smaller." I did not know I was having a girl. She was born at 40wks 4 days and weighed 7 lbs 14 oz.

My guess for this one is closer to 8 1/2 lbs, though I wish I had a prediction for when s/he will be born!

Well, crap! I feel like this baby is huge! Seriously, I am a miserable, stuffed sausage already! I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he is born close to ten pounds!

I believe it, although I guessed when my DS would be born within two days and guessed his weight exactly.  Now, this time around, I'm really just kind of confused.

Very interesting! I KNEW that my last baby was going to be at least 10 pounds. When I told me doc at the beginning he thought I was nuts. Lo and behold, my babe was 11 oz. over 10 lbs.!

This time I have felt like this babe will be smaller than 9 pounds for sure. I wasn't sure if I was being overly hopeful or what. Now I've been doubting myself though because of how the weight on my belly feels. We shall see!
