I have a close friend who just had a baby this week. Her doctor told her that the baby's cord was pinky-diameter instead of the "average" thumb diameter and that the cord was shredding near the placenta.

If what he said is accurate, what are the dangers to a baby of having a skinnier cord and a shredding cord?? He was induced at 38 wks or so.
