Gender Prediction at 12 weeks

Hi everyone,

I had my 12 week nuchal today, and I was told by the tech and then the doctor that the baby was a girl with 95% certainty.  That certainly goes with my gut feeling, but I was surprised they could tell so early.  Has anyone else ever been told so early, and was the doctor right?  I am over 35, so I was seeing a specialist who (I suspect) has a very trained eye.  The most important thing is that the baby looks healthy so far, and for that, I am incredibly grateful since it took me almost a year to conceive this child (my third).

Hello,  I have no idea if they can tell the gender reliably at that stage, but it must be lovely to know your baby is doing well :).  I hope someone else can chime in.

That is week 13.  

Week 12 does not say anything about external genitalia.  Week 11 says: Genitals have begun to form, but it is too early to tell the sex of the fetus

My best friend found out she was having a girl at 12 weeks from her specialist. She is a few months old now! :)

Ultrasound tech accurately predicted boy for for my 1st at an 12ish-week dating ultrasound performed at a university children's hospital's radiology lab.  She said something like "I'm 90% sure that baby is a boy but you might want to put off painting the room blue until a 20-week scan."

There is something about how the genitals present at this stage that does allow for pretty accurate gender prediction.  Apparently each gender has 3 (I think) lines in the area; one genders' are completely parallel and the other genders' lines are not are not.  I can't remember which is which.  Then I think it becomes more muddied for the next few months until closer to 17/18 weeks when the actual external genitalia look more as you would expect.

Not sure how male genitalia look at the stage, but girls are three parallel lines. I had read that it was possible at that stage for someone with a good amount of experience, but I'd be hesitant to count on it until confirming with a second u/s later.
