I don't know if it is because I've been eating too much, but things in my...ahem...elimination system have been horribly off-kilter.  I keep having cramping and bloating that seems to be associated with gas and constipation and/or diarrhea.  Anyone else experiencing this?

Things are out of whack here too - I was just wondering if was due to how much I've been eating too. 


My diet is still fairly healthy, but I am soooo gassy! Things are way ...uh...looser most days too. I hope the gas thing works out soon, my poor husband - ha ha!

It's normal. Not only is your entire body system off, but the relaxin you produce affects ALL the muscles in your body.

ugg yes. I've been having issues with constipation...pretty unusual for me...even while pregnant and NOTHING seems to be helping! 


I hear Gloria Lemay suggests her clients eat celery sticks to help things along, but unfortunately, I'm pretty sure I'd throw up if I tried that! ;-)

Me too greensad.gif My pants are already uncomfortable, but it has nothing to do with my uterus. Constipation was the first symptom to hit with my first pregnancy and it's already making its appearance this time.

Same here! I feel so bloated and gassy all the time! Not having a problem with constipation but every so often, diarrhea strikes. It's making my life difficult! greensad.gif

Well, I've been having intestinal/bowel woe when my pregnancy kicked in but i've found a helpful solution.  But I found that taking probiotics really helps.  Check with your doctor of course, but I've been told they were okay.  the babycentre website says:


"Researchers have looked at probiotics to see if they might reduce the risk of allergies and allergic diseases such as asthma and eczema in newborn babies, and also to see if they cut the risk of premature birth."

plain yogurt may also help.  but don't bother with yogurt that has sugar as it will just kill the good bacteria. best to get organic goat yogurt if you can tolerate it during those nauseous moments.


Also, I know this is too much information - but it is helpful so i'll pass it on.  Have a little box or stool (no pun intended) by the toilet so that when you put your feet up on it, when you are sitting on the toilet, it pushes your knees up as if you were squatting, the way we are naturally supposed to do our business not sitting as if we are taking tea with the queen.  You can just use a makeshift item, but there is actually a product called, the Squatty Potty:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rVYGnMD8u0

The probiotics helped me alot, but again, don't take my word for it, check with your doctor or midwife.

TMI time lol. I find that I am slightly constipated for a day or two, then maybe okay, then every few days I will have a few bouts of diarrhea including the awful gas pain. I remember being on the diarrhea side of things last time I was PG, probably preferable to the awful constipation that some people experience but my bowels seem all mixed up this time. And the diarrhea seems a lot worse this time, and early on in the PG compared to last time if I remember right. I am on probiotics (taken last PG as well) and I don't think they make any difference for me, but I take them for the reasons PP mentioned (for baby's health, as well as my own I guess).  I have read that it can go either way, constipation during PG being more common but diarrhea is not uncommon. I wonder if anybody has perfectly normal bowels during PG?

I wish I had diarrhea rather than constipation. I had that in the beginning but then it turned to constipation.  Hey pregnancy makes you have think about funny things! 

The usual BRAT diet is always suggested for the runs: Bananas, Rice, And Toast. 


I'd love to know if anyone has perfectly normal bowels during PG!  It ain't me :-(


I worry, if this what it is like at 9 weeks, what will it be like when I have a big baby inside me - better to try and nip it in the bud early on.

I've taken them for years and they have changed my life!!!!
