Vacation ideas in the PA/NJ area, would love some local advice :)

Hello, 

Our family has taken a vacation together the past few years.  We have rented a large house and stayed for a week with anywhere from 8-12 adults and a handful of kiddos.  We are looking for a location for this years trip and are having trouble with this.  We have talked about the Poconos and the Jersey shore but we don't have any knowledge of the areas.  We are hesitant to find a place and not know anything about the surrounding areas.  

Any recommendations for the best town/city to stay?

Ocean City and Sea Isle are very family friendly and on the quiet side.  Wildwood... very cheesy... very loud.... while considered a family place, I don't like - just too much.  I'd rather stay in Ocean City or Sea Isle and visit Wildwood which has the rides and water parks.   Ocean City is nice because it's a "dry" town so no bars so you don't have to deal with the drunks at 3:00 a.m. carrying on.  Both are great bike towns so if you are driving, bring your bikes.  If not, there are places you can rent bikes and some of the rentals may even provide them.  I do have a friend who rents out her home in Sea Isle - I can ask her what her availability is if you like.  It's a huge home (I want to say 4 bedrooms) right on the bay.

Turns out they sold their home and now live in the Sea Isle house full time.  She has a friend who's a realtor who does summer rentals that she highly recommends.  Would you like their number?

No worries.  You should look into maybe doing a side trip to Knoebel's http://www.knoebels.com/.  They have a huge pool (like the side of lake huge) and amusement park.  You  could go for a day from Hershey or stay overnight in a cabin there.
