Groceries $296/ $600 budget
Looking forward to some no spend days ahead!
Had a pretty good weekend for not spending had two non-budgeted expenses. Yesterday was expensive had bills to pay but they are only once a year and are budgeted. I broke our laptop on Saturday but have decided not to replace it right now.

Went to Walmart last night to get some sale items I had seen in the flyer, stayed to my list and didn't get extras. Stopped at McDonalds on the way home because the kids were hungry and I hadn't planned anything for supper :-( I'll have to make sure not to run errands at supper time again. Got the guinea pigs grass too. I will get gas today and our weekly groceries tomorrow and that should be it for this weekend. Signed the kids up for their swimming lessons through the YMCA yesterday but they are free with our family membership so I didn't have to pay anything.

a. Who you are: I'm a WOH mom of wonderful, 8 mo DS and wife to an equally wonderful DH.
b. Where you are going (your financial goals): I realized after having my son that I wanted to be able to stay home with him, but I have the educational loans consistent with my previous high-powered career. So I'd like to be debt free by the end of the year, then start working on the emergency fund with a goal to have 6 months of expenses by June of next year.
c. How you plan to get there: We're doing a DR-style plan and paying down our student loans pretty fast. Unfortunately, DH was just laid off so that is slowing us down a bit, although it does have the benefit of allowing one of us to be with DS rather than leaving him with a nanny, which I was never comfortable. I just wish it was me that had gotten laid off!!! Anyway, given all of that, we need to cut back our spending dramatically, both to allow us to repay our debts, but also so that when we go to one income permanently we have good spending habits and can make that sustainable.
So far this month we've been pretty good... I'll start keeping formal rack tomorrow!

for today
Late to the game. I've been doing pretty well for this month so far, considering we just moved into a new house. I promised myself I wouldn't run out and buy anything unless it was absolutely essential, and I stuck to a budget for furniture etc and I have no buyers' regrets or impulse buys - except for a toy storage shelf for DD that I bought new for $50 plus shipping, and then saw someone on CL offering the same thing for $20 and already assembled. FML, I wish they had listed it a few days earlier!!
Today I splurged on some painting supplies to paint two rooms (kept it under $80 though). And I bought a hand-held mirror for 4.99 (cheapest one, really?!) and a hand-held mixer that wasn't super essential but was only 5.99. I can use it for whipping cream etc. And Taco Bell for the husband. And I spent another $100 or so on pantry items that wasn't exactly planned but will definitely come in handy. (That brings the pantry total up to $500 - I spent $400 last week on two carts' worth of essentials. My budget was $1000 for everything including a share of cow, BUT there haven't been any chest freezers available so we have nothing to put the meat in. =/ So that's going to wait until next month. So for this month I've already pretty much used up our grocery money. I'm going to try to stretch $100 for the rest of the month, but I think I'll be OK. I hope.
Also, I have to say... $11 for generic, non-organic, standard-size package of frozen fruit, WHAT? I bought three bags and nearly fainted. Then again I also noticed a single bag of chips is like $5 - we don't ever buy bags of chips but I still think that's outrageous.
Good News, DS is going to spring break camp, the Topic is LEGO Engineering. Bad new $169.00 GOOD NEWS my mom is sending a check for the cost. My mom is also paying his next term at CTY. (She usually will but it takes begging and pleading and makes me feel like a child, this time she just said she will pay it this weekend). So that is a huge relief. 5 mornings of lego camp and 12 more weeks of CTY school.
I have food stamps on the card, but I dont think this is a huge grocery month (I hope). I dont plan on buying much inventory and simply eating up what we have. My lease is due for renewal on 5/1 and I need to let the office know on 4/1 what my intentions are. I hate moving but I need a job, I cant find one here and if I move 'home' its gonna make me nuts but at least I have better odds of getting a job. And I will be closer to money.
My spending is down this month and IF we are going to move I need all my $$ for the cross country trip. If we stay I need all my money to live on. (If I dont get a job I cant make rent here through the summer)
