How to ward off a cold while nursing...is Airborne safe?

Hi ladies! Well, baby is 6.5 weeks old and her daddy has been sick for the past week. He's slept downstairs on the couch and hasn't gone near either of us so we don't get sick. I'm pretty nervous about getting sick, or worse, her getting sick, so I want to do whatever I can to keep that from happening. Know of any tricks? I used to take Airborne, but I'm wondering if it's safe to take while nursing...?

If you are breast feeding, I wouldn't worry.  Your body will make antibodies to the illness and they will be passed to the baby.  My older son has had a lingering cough and we get coughed on over and over (even though we tell him to cover up 9 million times a day!).  He actually never got a cold until he weaned...and he goes to daycare 2X a week.  I've considered pumping a glass of breastmilk for him to drink everyday (in addition to his elderberry syrup).  It really is the best defense for kiddos against illness!

I've already had a cold with my LO, who is 9 weeks old today. I used Zicam , and I would have no problem using Airborne, any possible complications are very unlikely.

My LO seemed to get a little bit of a cold, I breastfed like crazy, and she was fine. The worst was that I was sick and still had to take care of her.

YEP! Our whole house was sick a few weeks ago, including me.....E never got a single sniffle! I'm also a believer in the law of attraction.....don't have any fear!

I took airborne last week when daddy was sick and neither I nor baby girl got sick. Now she's having some nasal congestion, I'm not sure if she has a cold, but I started taking airborne again. My midwife said it was ok. I don't take prenatals when taking it though, so as not to get too much of the non water soluble vitamins.

DD2 got sick at 2 weeks old and was fine. Just had to suction her nose a bunch (btw putting some breast milk up there first really helps!) so she was able to breathe better by nursing. DD1 was also sick, but nothing major, just a super runny nose. I honestly never got sick, but I'm sure breastfeeding two with an illness makes my body produce a ton of antibodies.

Anyway, most illnesses are contagious before you start showing symptoms. If you're going to get contaminated by your husband, it's probably already happened.
