Stripping diaper cream off prefolds?

My 6 month old DD gets diaper rash something fierce.  We usually use Boudreaux's Butt Paste on her (it comes off the diapers nicely), but occasionally when it gets really bad we have to go to the Desitin, and after a few days of that her diapers start to smell like cod liver oil.  Ick.  Anybody have experience stripping diaper cream off a bunch of diapers?  What's the best way to do it?  (We use prefolds.)
