Who is nursing?

My DD is 20 months old and will be 28 months when the baby is born. I had planned to nurse until 2ish and hoped that she would be ready to wean around then. She really loves nursing and I'm definitely not going to wean cold turkey just because I'm pregnant but to be totally honest, if she weaned during the pregnancy I'd be ok with that. I guess I'll play it by ear. I had never planned to tandem nurse but never say never!

What is your plan if you're still nursing your most recent baby?

I'm still feeding my 21mo. I plan to do CLW and I'd like her to keep going until she's at least two. I'm planning to tandem feed as long as she doesn't wean while I'm pregnant.

I'm still nursing my 12 month old....I'll nurse as long as he wants to.  I nursed my last to 2 years, hopefully we can make that milestone again.  We do cosleep and nurse a lot at night, and I'm not sure how I feel about cosleeping with a newborn and another older baby but I have some time to think about it.

I'm still nursing my 26-month old, with no sign of stopping so far. He LOVES it and asks to nurse really often during the day. We successfully night-weaned a couple of months ago (we're still co-sleeping), which has made nursing a toddler seem much more manageable -- I was starting to resent it because I wasn't getting any sleep! I plan to nurse as long as he wants to, but secretly hope that he will either cut way back or wean completely before the baby comes.

Still nursing my son (9/09). He doesn't nurse much anymore so I don't know how much longer he will. But I'm fine with with self weaning when he's ready smile.gif

I'm nursing my 'just turned' 22 monther. Haven't yet thought of when to wean- kind of wanted her to take the lead but am slightly concerned abt mc and continued nursing. Not sure if there is a correlation but have heard some stories. I also have low progesterone and know that nursing makes it lower. Just started low dosage supplements. Anyone else feel concerned?

My daughter will be three in April, and we just stopped night-nursing a couple of months ago. Ive planned on letting her self wean, and I don't think this pregnancy will change that, although I'm sure it will have her cutting back some- she still nurses quite a bit.

Still nursing my 18 mo! While TTC I cut him down to 3-4 times a day and will keep it at that for couple more weeks. Then we'll go back to our normal 5 times a day, something I'm very happy about! I'm sure DS will be much happier though! winky.gif We night weaned him a month or so ago but he does get an early morning nursing (around 3-4 AM) otherwise he wakes up for the day at 5:00 AM asking to eat "manas" and "ess" (bananas and eggs). The little dude STILL can't last the night without eating!

I've heard so many mamas say their older kid adjusted to a new sibling better due to tandem nursing. Neither DS nor I are ready to wean so we'll just keep going as long as we want to!

Funny, if you'd asked me 4 months ago I would have said NO WAY to tandem nursing. Now I'm really considering it!

I'm still nursing my 19 month old. I had him almost weaned a few weeks ago, but the kids all got a horrible cold, and I felt he needed breastmilk to feel better. :) I am planning on getting the nursing down to once per day and once per night over the next week, and then wean him completely asap.

Still nursing my 13 month old and really want to keep it up for a while yet.  I'm worried I won't be able to because, well...

[okay, this is going to sound TOTALLY out of place at MDC, but I promise, I'm absolutely pro breastfeeding, just anti-throwing-up....]

During my first trimester with Indy, Savannah was still nursing, and right before morning sickness set in for me, she started throwing up after every time she nursed.  After a few days of that... when I was pretty sure it wasn't a virus or food poisoning or whatever, I made the decision to wean her.  (She was 19 months, so I felt okay about this.)  As soon as I did, the vomiting stopped.  And that was when morning sickness set in for me.  This was all between 10 and 11 weeks.

I couldn't find anything about this happening to anyone else except that there's an old wive's tale that if you nurse while pregnant your baby will get sick.  Also, I know that pregnancy hormones pass into your milk, just in small quantities.  Since I get strong morning sickness, I wonder if my milk just has a greater concentration of the hormones?

Anyway, just last night, at 5 weeks for this pregnancy, Indy threw up right after nursing.   It's just once so far, not every time like with Savannah, so I am hoping it's something else, or it'll be mild enough that we can continue nursing.  He's too young to wean. :-(

But now I'm worried...  I feel crazy about all of this because everyone says it's an old wive's tale... but it just seems like too many coincidences.  We'll see.  :-(

Me! I am nursing my 10 month old and cosleeping. I don't have any plans to wean her. She mostly nurses just at night (and mostly from the right breast lol). She eats a lot of table foods during the day.

Me too - I am still nursing my 18mo DD... I weaned DS at 18mo because I was pregnant with DD and just COULDN'T STAND IT! seriously, I loved nursing and I am a big supporter of breastfeeding in general. hereabouts I am already some kind of a freak, still nursing my toddler. but as soon as I was pregnant I got sore nipples - I never had a problem with that during the entire 18months before! my milk pretty much dried up and my skin just crawled from the dry nursing.

Now here we go again, exact same scenario. For now I intend to go for a s long as I can possibly manage, but I'm already starting to have a hard time. especially the nights are tough. we'll see..

I nursed through pregnancy and tandem nursed with my older kids. At this point, I feel my body is so depleted from pregnancy, birth and nursing for almost 8 years straight.greensad.gif I want to give my unborn child the best nutrition I can, and given my situation, even with eating a super nutrient dense WAPF diet, I do not feel it's in the best interest of the new baby to nurse my youngest anymore. We are all sad about it, even my six year old dd was crying yesterday. I had planned on nursing until he was at least 2 years old. gloomy.gif

I'm technically still nursing Pearl, who is 2 years 9 months, but we've been working on gentle weaning for months now. And to be honest I don't think my body is up for tandem nursing. My BMI tends to ride right between the underweight-healthy line, and I had a really hard time gaining weight when pregnant with Pearl. I ended up being put on a high fat, high calorie diet by my midwife. And I also have a history of miscarriage... so as much as I hate to do it, I think I have to stop.

But if all goes well, it will only be a short while before I'll have a little one to nurse again. smile.gif

I'm not an expert, but this is what I understand about nursing during pregnancy:

For a healthy woman with an uncomplicated pregnancy, not much. It's perfectly safe. :-)  It might be more painful to nurse than before, and your supply will decrease and your milk will change, but other than that it shouldn't be a problem.

However, because nursing causes uterine contractions, if you have a history of preterm labor or miscarriages you might want to wean. And also, since pregnancy and nursing both take calories and nutrients from your body, some women will need to wean for those reasons.

That's kinda what I thought and now I'm a little nervous. Anyone else feel those cramps when bfing? I feel them sometimes..... A lot like after delivering ds.i didn't have any problems with my first pregnancy and I really don't wanna wean!

My left nipple is sore when we nurse & I've been cramping but I'm not really worried about it at this point.

Still nursing my 9 mo.  Already noticing a drop in production.  I so don't want him to wean early.  And I REALLY don't want to have to give him formula.  The drop is causing him to want to nurse even more often at night and for longer durations.  So tired, but willing to keep it up not to lose the milk!  I'm thinking of picking up some More Milk 2.  Hoping it will help at least for the next 3 months.
