Tax question about 1098-T

I'm a new student & started school this spring semester.  I received my 1098-T after I had already filed, I thought nothing of it because I didn't go to school in 2011.  I just learned that since the school bills in Dec 2011 for the spring semester that I should have included it when I filed.  Now with that said, I have been told two completely different things in regards to amending.  I didn't pay, I received Fin Aid grants, therefore I won't get a credit anyway.  So why bother amending? m But the school's Fin Aid office is urging me to amend, they think I may get a refund.  I called a local tax preparer to ask & he confirmed what I had thought.  He said that I don't have to do anything.  I wouldn't be eligible for a refund because I didn't pay and there was no reason to report anything further.  No penalty or anything if I do nothing.  Why did the head guy in my school's Fin Aid office seem pretty certain that I'd get something?  Just wondering if I'm missing something?  If anyone has any experience with this I'd love to hear! Thanks!

I received full financial aid (loans) when in school but still got a refund form the IRS with 1098-t forms.

I would amend, or at least re-run your numbers with the new information.

Loans are different though because you are paying them.  I received grants that I don't have to pay back.  Do you still think I should amend?

I would re-run the numbers with the new information and see what happens.
