other sugar freaks out there???

i have a major problem with craving sweets. as in, i want them all the time. cookies, candy bars, ice cream, you name it. i sort of have always been like this but i seem to remember having more restraint in the past. now it seems like i'm always thinking about it. the rest of my diet is great! i know low fat low protein diets can be bad for this and i definitely have neither. i get my fats from nuts, cheeses, yogurt and my proteins mainly from beans, eggs and an occasional fish meal. i eat all whole wheat products and try to do the natural sweet thing by eating fruit, adding honey to things, etc. It just doesn't cut it! when i see candy, my mouth literally salivates and i have a hard time controlling myself :LOL i can never decide...skittles, peanut butter cups, dove bars...agh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i want it all.: terrible i know. does anyone else have this problem???? any ideas??? i've read all the food and mood stuff and it just doesn't seem to work for me.

I'm here too! If I fall off the wagon and have one sugary thing, then I binge. It's pretty bad.

i binge if i don't have something every day just to tide off the desire for more. if i don't eat it at all, whoa, watch out. i wish i could find something that would satisfy me and maybe be remotely healthy. though i can't imagine something like dried fruit doing that for me.

I'm a junk food junky but since I started the non-dairy diet I can't eat chocolate and my sugar cravings have actually reduced, believe it or not. The reason I'm on a non-dairy diet is because of DS's eczema and weight gain/food allergy issues, so I bet I'll go right back after he weans.

me too

hangs head in shame

It seems like I used to have better self-restraint too, but now I think about it all the time. I think at some point I will have to work myself up to going cold turkey.

I'll confess up as well I love sugar, my current fav is chocolate. I can't keep any in the house, I will eat it all asap. I keep telling myself I am going to quit cold turkey, but it is always tomorrow :LOL

I've actually just started the Anti-Candida diet a few days ago, and my cravings have all but disappeared. I have been on similar diets in the past, but this time there is no dairy involved. I wonder if there is some link we're unaware of...

Sugar is a funny thing. How can something soooo good make us feel so bad? :LOL For me, most of the really bad sugar cravings go away after a few days of not eating any. I still have some bad days, but for the most part I'm OK without it.

I will NOT eat sugar today.
I will NOT eat sugar today.
I will NOT eat sugar today.
I WILL NOT EAT SUGAR TODAY!!

count me in; i dont let the kids eat much junk but i am glad to finish it all for them!!(halloween, easter, birthdays etc!!)
oh i wish i could live without a pop a day..... but i dont drink coffee so i excuse it as my only caffiene(not including chocolate of course). and i drink lots of water to try and make up for it.
but mmm baking is my weakness. of course i have to try at least one cookie off every sheet i make... two if they're really good..... which they always are......
and if i'm not baking i am at the bakery every day!

I'm such a sugar freak, I wouldn't last on Atkins Diet ONE DAY! I would enjoy the breakfast and then cheat by lunch easily LOL

The only thing that works for me is to eat several mini meals throughout the day so I dont crave sweets. I also don't keep them in the house (I have Teddy Grahams for my kids and Ginger Snaps for my dh but I don't like those so they are safe from me LOL) and let myself have one or two treats out a week.

Me too, I have a terrible addiction to sweets! AUUGGHH. I did low carbs a few times and I lost weight quickly but the whole time I was thinking "the first thing I am going to do when I lose this weight is go get a caramel frappaccino!" Bad way to go......and I did.... and gained all the weight back in a month!

So now......I am LOWERING my sugar.....I also use honey and raw sugar to make homemade treats.......still not great, but I figure it better than overloading. Yesterday I made a banana cream pie with whole organic milk, banana, (I cheated and used a graham cracker premade crust though ) raw sugar......I made the whipping cream with heavy whipping cream (no sugar) but I added a tiny amount of raw sugar to it for a bit of a sweet taste. Probably not great for me but I figure its better than a candy bar, etc etc.

Fruit smoothies are good sweet treats too with a bit of real whipping cream on them. You can add probiotic yogurt, etc etc so they have a bit of health in them too. LOL
