I know it's early but....

I've seen the pinterest boards so I know some of y'all are already planning! What are the plans So far for baby's first birthday.

I want to go all out for her since No one cared enough to celebrate her birth (no baby showers or anything- barely acknowledge In any way other than a congrats on fb from either side of the family). But I'm at a loss as what to do as we will be moving from VA in the beginning of July. Hopefully we'll make new friends in the 5 wks before her birthday but if not, I just don't know! I just want to throw her a party!

Anyway, for the theme I'm going with probably cowgirl, though I've considered doing a book theme with classic little golden book characters (like the little pokey puppy) for decorations.

Do you know where you're moving yet?

I figure we'll have family and some of his baby friends. And food they can eat. Maybe a taco thing  with both adult and baby-friendly versions of things. And I'm not sure about a cake yet. It'll be August, so I might just go down and get some awesome local fruit and roast it for them. We'll see. :)

I don't really know what he'll like then. I figure for the second birthday we'll do a paint party and have a bunch of naked kids running around with body paint - but one is too young and his friends are too young. They won't all be walking yet.

nak/1ht

Im planning a backyard bbq, tiki torches, sprinklers for kids (and grownups), appetizer snack foods, grilled veggies/fruit, veggie burgers, corn on the cob.

Im debating the rainbow cake.

Might tie in a giraffe/safari theme...

margaritas, pitchers of sangria, beer, etc.

reposting for non fbers!

Becky- that's sounds fun. Unlike the idea of a taco bar- something easily customizable and kid friendly.

Unfortunately we do not know where we are moving yet. Stateside we have 11 possibilities (Fort Lewis Washington, Fort Carson, Colorado; Fort Bliss, Texas; Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Bragg, NC; Fort Campbell Kentucky; Fort Drum, NC; HAAF in Savannah, GA; fort Riley Kansas; Hawaii; and Alaska. If we get Hood, Savannah, or Bragg we'll have a few people to invite. I'd not- we'll probably just invite some of the families with small kids in whichever unit my husband ends up in.

Carrie- the barbecue sounds fun, esp the Margaritas smile.gif. The rainbow cakes look awesome, but a lot of work !

I just realized DD will have her first birthday while we're in Maine for a big family gathering. She'll get to be with her American cousins on her birthday, then go to Germany and be with her German cousins soon after. How exciting! Maybe I should bake a lobster-shaped cake. orngbiggrin.gif

It does, right?  Jill explained how she did it with freezing the layers as they were done, and assembling it on the day of the party.  I think thats doable.  I have a tiny kitchen...if I buy one more set of cake pans, I could do it.

I just really want to have an awesome cake for the little man.  I did a special cake for Nora's 1st bday and I want to carry on that tradition!  If I don't do the rainbow cake, I'll find something equally awesome.  Or I'll just wuss out and do cupcakes, lol.

If you get Ft. Lewis you will have to become my friend and invite me and all the awesome mama's in the baby group I will have you join ;) It's 20 minutes away.

It's fantastic up here, you should come! :D IF you don't mind rain.

I'm a taco bar addict. We did them for Solstice because we were feeding omnivores, vegetarians and vegans. Worked great :)

Yes Stormy! Go to WA! Embrace the nearly constant rain!!

DH has family in Olympia, and I want to go visit Becky one day. But then you could have a good proper first birthday with little August baby friends. The idea makes me squee with delight!

For DD I'm thinking of having a pool party, using her birth tub as the pool! Will people be grossed out by that? I used a liner... wink1.gif Mostly just simple food and hanging out in the back yard in the sun. I will probably try to make her a few gifts, and make a big pitcher of jalapeño margaritas for the parents.

How about instead of having first birthday parties, we have 1 big birthing-day celebration with each other!?!

And all this talk about margaritas makes me want some now! champagne.gif

jalapeno margaritas!!!??

No idea other than keeping it simple and doing the same mini cupcakes shaped into a 1 that I did with DS1, this time without the blue coloring in the icing. We'll probably have some friends from Church and their children over for a cook out. We might also get visited by DH's family but I'm not counting on it.

Oh cute cake!!!

Cupcakes frosted as one big cake...hmm...I like that idea!

Hmm...rainbow cupcakes!!  Then I don't have to worry about cake not coming out of the pans!!  Which ALWAYS happens when I bake 8" cakes!!!  They always stick.

For DD's 1st bday she wanted spongebob.  I relented and made her a spongebob cake.  We don't even watch it, she just really liked the character back then, lol.  But the rest of her party was baby sesame street.

Gawd I was thin back then.  Sigh.

Chop up a fresh pineapple, and thin slice (into rounds) 1 jalapeno.  Place in a large glass jar (not plastic, no no no).  Take a fifth of good tequila, and pour over the pineapple and jalapenos.  Put a lid on it, and allow to steep for a few days.

On margarita day, do a special salted rim by dipping in HONEY, then in salt.  Shake 1.5 ounces of your pineapple jalapeno infused tequila, 1 ounce triple sec, and 2-3 ounces of limeade, and pour over ice into your fancy honey salted glass.  Garnish with a piece of pineapple out of the infusion, and a jalapeno too, if ya dare :)

That thar is my grand plan for summer afternoons.  They are YUMMY!

I'd so love for you to visit! I keep plotting to go down to Portland to bug all you guys but haven't done it yet, obviously. It sounds hard.

I think the birth tub would be an awesome pool! If anyone is weird, more room for you! :D

Great cakes you guys! I suppose I might need to learn to pipe frosting now that I'm all maternal. HM.

Carrie, have you tried putting parchment paper in the bottom?  Works like a charm for me.

When do you find out? Would you be able to live off base? I am SO up for helping you find goodness if you can come here - it's time for goodness in your life! And oh, the places you can go! :D

Be prepared, if you get stationed here, for a slightly manic me messaging you a crazy amount of "OH and go HERE!" for things like http://www.nwtrek.org/ :D

I am RIDICULOUSLY excited for Ada's first birthday.  My whole reasoning behind having a summer baby was for the parties!!!  We are doing fried chicken/fish, coleslaw, spicy potato wedges, corn bread, green salad, watermelon....the whole southern thing.  It's going to be all adults, but I still am going to have Pin the Tail on the Donkey, potato sack races.  It'll be a hoot after a few drinks!
