i called my ob/gyn's office today and they said they start seeing preggos at 8 weeks and weren't able to schedule me until may 25 because my dr is only there 1 day a week. it seems like most of you are seeing your dr/midwife before that. is this unusual?

Caregivers around these parts don't want to see you until you are about 10-12 weeks. So, I haven't even really thought about making an appointment yet. Just eating well, sleeping as much as I can and takng my vitamins ("just in case").

I have an appointment with my midwives when I'm 12 weeks. They have a pretty open door policy, you can go to see them when ever you want while PG. They are always available by phone if you have any questions or concerns.
I too am taking my vitamins, sleeping and waiting for the second trimester before I go for a prenatal

OH JESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had no idea! CONGRATULATIONS!

My new midwife didn't want to see me until after 8 weeks either. ( cancelled the appt w/the first one for bad vibes )

I scheduled an appt w/my gp for this week though, just to make myself feel better.

I had my first appointment with my OB at 5 weeks (mostly just to get some prenatals and get the initial internal overwith.) I was thinking about having a homebirth this time around, but here in MO a MW attended homebirth is illegal and there are very few doctors that even have MWs on staff (well, in St. Louis.) We are probably moving the end of May, so who knows what the future holds?!?! I'd like to birth in a birthing center, but if we stay here that's not an option. Sometimes I wish we were still in FL!

My first appointment will be May 13th. I will be 9 weeks by that time.

My first appointment is next week, but I'll be 8 weeks then. At first I was freaked out by that, wanting to get in right away just to know everything is okay and to find out what things I could and couldn't eat/take (which would be lovely to know right now as I'm suffering through a cold or allergies and am even afraid to take herbal remedies). But I found that reading others' symptoms and talking within my support network of friends and family who I have told about the baby has been very helpful in calming my fears. Needless to say, though, I'm very excited to meet the midwife next week!!!

my first meeting with my midwife is at 5 weeks. it's just the initial meeting/tour/exam, and i've never had an appt. this early with my previous pregnancies, so it is all new to me.

thanks kris!!! i just posted on another thread how i didn't realize you were due in december too! yippeee!!!

thanks for the feedback! i think i'm going to call my dr's other office and see if i can schedule an appt there. it's farther from here, but when she's at the hospital, she's on call and that's always annoying.

Mine is May 13th, also. I will be close to 9 weeks...but I am only going to see this provider if I cannot find a CNM

Going at 8 weeks, but they would have been fine with me waiting until 10 weeks.

I had an meeting with the midwife this week - it was an introductory meeting/consultation to see if we wanted to hire her for our birth (homebirth) I start my prenatles with her on May 12th (I will be about 8 weeks) I will also be seeing an OB as backup - and have a consultation with him on May 18th. Not sure how often I will see him, but at least a few times.

I have an apt. on the 30th. I made it with the first OB who had a CNM and could see me b/c i thought I would just feel better if I saw someone in terms of my anxiety. However, now I am afraid of the apt. b/c it is the morning before DH and I leave for a weekend get away! It is always something.

I think it is pretty normal for OB's to wait untill the 8th week to see you.
An aside on a related note:
I called one office and the women said to me in the rudest tone: "Well, we don't accept home pregancy tests so you'll need to come in and take one here which will cost $29 and won't be covered by your co-pay then if you really are pregnanat you'll need to come back in 8 weeks with the father of the baby..." That is when I cut her off and said "you know what just forget it." and hung up! Some People:

My first visit is 4/27 and I will be almost 8 wks. - I would rather wait until 10 wks. since I have had a mc in Sept (10 wks) and another in Jan. (5 wks) I just don't think it helps any to be seen so early (I have been taking prenatals for almost a year now LOL) and I am on progesterone since 12 dpo. However, my ob wants to see me anyway....get the blood work done sooner I guess, still not looking forward to it....I think I am afraid of bad news.

I'll have my first appoint at 9 weeks. Our place usually sees you around 8 weeks. I go to an OB/GYN office.

It seems midwives usully sees patients sooner.

Personally I'm fine with the wait. I'll be in there enough throughout the pregnancy!

My first OB appt. is next tues, the 27th. I'm actively searching for a CNM but I do want to get my inital exam done and over with and make sure all looks normal so far. I'm so excited!

I only just started making calls to midwives to find one. :

I hate making phone calls so much that I started thinking about doing an unassisted birth just to avoid them... I'm not really that thrilled about setting up appointments and getting to them, either (coordinating with my DH, and getting DD dressed and out without fights!)... But, OK, I've started making some calls, and with luck I'll find a compatible midwife happy to do my homebirth.

I just chose my OB this morning, and my first appt isn't until May 18!! Does that seem too far away or is it just me ?
I went to a clinic a couple of weeks ago to get my pregnancy confirmation, and they scheduled me for an ultrasound. I went in for that this afternoon and got to see my little cutie for the first time!!!! Even got to hear it's little hearbeat . Talk about an emotional moment ! And I'm only at 7 weeks. Already baby's first pictures are in a little photo album. Too exciting !!! So much for waiting for my OB appt! It's such a relief to know that everything is fine without having to wait a month.
OK, just had to share my happiness with someone!!! Too much excitement to keep all to myself!

Oh, by the way. I had the worst craving for a beer the other day (which I didn't fulfill). And all my life I have just been repulsed by the taste of it. Has anybody else had something like this? :

I just moved back here to San Diego(well last year)and i need to find out if my midwife is still around and doing birthings.I hope so.Otherwise i will have to pay out of pocket for a homebirthing midwife.

I just called this morning and my OBGYN's office doesn't see me until 8 weeks. I thought this sounded like a long time, too! I think with my first I went in earlier, like at 5 or 6 weeks (different dr.). It makes me feel better to know how common 8 weeks is now!

Best wishes to all...
