My sister had a pretty rough labor and birth with her first baby. I was with her and it was difficult. To make a long story short...she was told that her labor was taking "too long," which led to loss of confidence for my sister, and epidural, pitocin, c-section, maternal fever, baby in NICU for monitoring. I am sure you have all heard this progression before. Breastfeeding went extremely well for her. I spent 4 days with her, supporting her with breastfeeding while her milk came in. Now that my sister is expecting again, very soon, a lot of emotions about her birth have been rising to the surface. I think it is so important for women to acknowledge how important their birth experiences are. I wrote this article, with my sister in mind...Maybe it will speak to some of you who have had difficult birth experiences. It is entitled...Having a Healthy Baby is NOT All That Matters.
