Oh man, Dantesmama is on fire again! Congrats to all the losers (especially Rae!)
to all the gainers!! What can we do to help? BB - I will give the C25K a go, just for you. Don't want you to be a loner. I hope I can finish the first day

Crikey! 220 posts, and not even all the weigh ins. We might have to move to fortnightly threads of something (on that note, does everyone realise you can change your settings to display 100 posts to a page?) I find it helps.
Re: thyroid, I have had it tested a couple of times, more to do with my RPL testing than anything else. It's always "seemed" normal. I will ask about it again though.

Still not sure what team I'm on, but thanks for having me here. Go BLUE or RED.
I was still at 177 this morning, but don't have a digital scale so it may be a little over or under. No gain or loss for me this week.
Speaking of the over 40 thing, I turned 40 a week and a half ago, and my neighbor asked me if I was falling apart yet. Ha Ha very funny. The truth is it appears I have Plantar Facitis in my left foot and it's making walking (the only form of exercise I can really afford as it is FREE) painful. I still got out with the kids for a walk to the park and back (about 15 minutes each way) but it hurt.
I have a Yoga DVD and Bellydancing DVD that I'm planning to put back in rotation, but I feel like I'm stuck in a vicious circle. I have the problem with my feet because I'm too heavy, I believe, but it's hard to exercise because my feet freakin' hurt!

Quote:Not quite. I will be 39 in a couple of months and it is a big motivator right now. I know this weight will only get harder to take off as I get older. I don't want to be fighting the same pounds in 2 years. My goal is to take this year to lose the fat and then focus on maintaining good muscle tone as I age in my 40's, 50's and beyond.
post #226 of 4653/26/12 at 3:49pmlairaja my DH had that and he went to a doc and had a cortisone shot for immediate relief. Then he went to a podiatrist and purchased orthodics that were custom to his feet. If yolu can get a hold of a temporary cast ( they look like a boot with open toe and straps across the leg) wear it to bed. It helps your foot stay at a certain angle so when you get out of bed and take that first step you won't get that horrific pain. HTH

Quote:Awww, thanks Milk! I was really scared to hop on the scale this morning. Even just that half pound loss really makes me feel like I'm not spinning my wheels, yk? And the shout-out makes me feel special. ;) And YAY for giving C25K a go--I'm in the middle of week 4. Depending how my legs/ankles recover from this next run (due tonight), I may stay in week 4 until I feel like I'm not pushing my legs too hard with the barefoot thing. Apparently strengthening muscles and connective tissue in ways they've never been used before is a bit traumatic for them.
Lairaja--OUCH on the PF! Do you "scrape" the fascia on your feet to release the adhesions? I've heard of people freezing water in a paper cup, tearing it away a bit, and using the edge of the ice to do just that. Thankfully I don't have any personal experience. Do you have a good chiropractor who might be able to help? A podiatrist will likely recommend insoles, but that may allow you to work out. I hope you find a treatment that works, whatever the case.
EDIT: Dh didn't get home in time for me to get my run in before "darktime" (as my 3yo says). Hmph. It's probably just as well so I can let my blisters heal a bit better and let my foot muscles recover before running tomorrow. I ended up doing a Mama Wants Her Body Back workout (#3) and MWHAbsB (#1). I can feel myself getting stronger throughout those, too. Yay! So I'm 1/1 as far as working out/days this week. I didn't eat "enough" calories according to myfitnesspal, but I honestly wasn't really hungry. I had lots of healthy foods, so it's all good. Anyone else on myfitnesspal, my name there is also stegenrae...friend me if you want. I may not log every day, but I'm going to try to do a few days/week at the least just to make sure I'm still on track with what I think I'm eating.

Thanks trekkingirl, I will look into getting one of those boots at a home health store or something. We don't currently have insurance, but I need to do something beyond the stretches and good shoes advice I've gotten so far.

I'm assuming the scraping you talk about is a sort of massage technique? I have a really wonderful massage therapist (who was also my homebirth midwife!) and I've been meaning to make an appointment with her for months. Now I think I definitely have a good reason. I'm sure she will advise something similar. Time to buy some dixie cups, too!Thank you both for the support. My DP does not quite get the pain thing yet, as in how intense it can be. He asked me yesterday "Are you limping?" after we took the kids to the park. Uh....duh! I think it's sinking in that there's something seriously amiss with my footsies.
I hope I can find some other ways to get my exercise. I know losing weight is going to help with this, too.
post #229 of 4653/26/12 at 5:52pmI weighed in at 269 this morning, so down 2 pounds. I feel much better about my bike rides, too, which is nice.
I am 40 now and I am (knock on wood) not noticing any change yet, but I hear from everyone that it will come soon.
Continued good vibes to everyone!

did my 30 minutes walking with DH.
Ate: oatmeal with apple sauce for breakfast
1/2 brown rice with 1 c. black beans topped with 1/4 avocado, orange peppers, several black olives; 1 c. fat free yogurt with 3 tsp. sugar for lunch
1 c. boiled potatoes, 1/2 c. corn, 1 piece of special k loaf with cottage cheese, 1 c. ice cream for supper
had lots of water today, it helped me to get from one meal to the next.
post #231 of 4653/26/12 at 6:12pmLost another 3 pounds this week. Yay! Down to 204 this morning when I weighed in. Really hoping to get into the 100's SOON!
Congrats to all the losers!

OK ladies - we are missing some weights (please check for yours - if I missed it or got it wrong, please post and let me know!) so if you have not posted, please do so asap! I will do the math for the percents once we get all the weights in.
Milk - I need the official word on our last 2 late joiner requests - are they in and if so, team assignments? I did add them to the chart, but let me know their official status :)

Lairaja, I don't have plantar faciitis but i have calcaneus heel bone
for medical reasons had to up my intake of calcium rich cheese over the last few months, and it struck again and badly
the podometrist who made soles for me 15 months ago had warned me NOT to have any cow milk but revert to small amonts of goat or ewe milk products
I've reduced greatly cow milk products again and it helps (supposed to help tendons NOT to have so many by-products of milk that are negatively affecting tendon operationbs
... children talking & getting ready for school, can't concentrate and type LOL

Barefootmama: 177.4 for me. My check in was 50 odd posts back, so I will forgive you for missing it!
I'm fine with the two late joiners, although I think we will officially call the thread closed. No more latecomers, or it is too much to handle. (I bet you are re-thinking your offer to track weights!) I have PM'ed the missing check ins, so hopefully we will get them soon.
I was trying to keep the two teams even-ish weights, so it's hard to call the last two without vermontgirl's starting weigh in. Flip a coin? Huha can be BLUE and Vermont Girl RED.
Anyone who is unsure of their team - please refer to Barefootmamas chart
Sorry, but this challenge is now closed - no further newbies will be accepted. Please check in in seven weeks to see if a new challenge is available.
post #238 of 4653/27/12 at 8:09amI have to admit that I was ambivalent about joining this thread and having a commitment to you all, but it's really helping me stay conscious - thanks to all.
BuzzerBeater - I'm in on the c25k, especially since reading the support for doing the same week over and over. I've done a few weeks of it previously but forced myself to stick to the increasing challenges and so of course overshot my abilities and quit. Yesterday I did the first workout, but not even running, just speed walking for the run intervals. And I'm going to get myself some new running shoes today for more inspiration and to keep the joints happy.
Yay for us over 40s! I'm glad not to be the only one here, and I think we should get extra credit for every pound we lose - or at least pat ourselves on the back.

I'm 40 too! Rapidly closing on 41. Just want to apologize to my team - DH and I got into a huge ugly fight Sunday that spilled intoo Monday am and I forgot to weigh in. I'm feeling much much better and will hop on tomorrow am (I'm weird about only weighing myself right when I get out of bed!)
Was "good" this weeked despite being away with a large group - got in a long power walk Sat - didn't snack on the junk food most did - etc. Wasn't a saint, but I'm please overall with my control. Great workout today and 3.5 weeks away from vacation so feeling VERY motivated!
Again - I hope I didnt screw up by not weighing in Monday - I'm sorry!
Andrea
