The eight week healthy weight loss challenge - version 2.0 (start date 19/03/12) - Page 3

I know we haven't officially started yet, but I wanted to check in and whine about exercise. I road my bike about 10 miles today and it was brutal. Last summer I did a 200 miles ride over 4 days. Today I walked a bunch on a route that I could ride back then without any walking. It's a combo of being in crappy shape and having gained about 40 pounds since then. DH and I are signed up to do a 40 miles ride at the beginning of May, so I need to get into gear fast! Here's hoping my weight will be down some, too, by then.

stegenrae I hope I'm not sounding rude.............

If you're 5' 6" aren't you already at a healthy weight at 156lbs? I'm 5' 6" and my weightloss goal is 170lbs. Anything below that and I start to look way too thin. From what I understand from the book I'm following about low carb diets, it only helps weightloss if there are pounds to loose. People that want to gain to a healthy stature that are under weight can also follow that program with great success. (according to the book) Maybe that's why you gained doing low carb. Are you adding plenty of healthy fat for energy? I hope I didn't hurt your feelings. I'm really not trying to be mean, just helpful.

I was waiting on a few late check ins, but I have officially brought it to a close.  The results are in the opening post, but basically the BLUE TEAM kicked butt!  A lot of it.  CONGRATS!

Red team, kinda dismal guys!  ROTFLMAO.gifI accept some of the responsibility though.  But hey, it's a new challenge!

Trekkingirl, I did Rae's stats, and she can still qualify to be here, based on the "rules".  I do think that you might be right about the low carbs, Rae - you might be at a weight where you need to change it up a bit to get results...

Welcome to all the newbies, and Christinelin - hopefully by the end of the challenge, you will be back on track!  It should coincide nicely with the ride too.

I weighed myself this morning I'm 5'5" and 184 pounds, really want to lose some of this baby fat.

I'm in for round 2! It's great to see some new names in the thread. Hi Adaline'sMama and Tropicana!

AFM, I lost 6 pounds last round, and gained 4 of them back in Mexico last week. Yep, four. So much for eating right on vacation dammit. In my defense, the trip was kind of a nightmare with dd2 (21 months) who seemed to be having some major sensory issues and freaking out at the drop of a hat. Would NOT do the pool, the beach, or the ocean, but loved the dining room with the 24 hour all you can eat motif.

If I could answer this post of Stegenrae doesn't get to it:

For some of us it is about our frame. I am 5'6" and 150-something right now. That leaves me at 30% body fat, with a 24 BMI (I think according to the charts). And a size 14 bathing suit.  I am very tubby in the middle along with too much all over. Very apple shaped and that's not healthy. My arms, legs, shoulders, hips (especially my hips) aren't built to carry that much weight. My frame is small, and I am very comfortable around a size 2 or 4 and at about 110 pounds. I realize that's underweight for most women, but not me. I really do want/need to lose another 40 pounds. My knees hurt, I have sleep apnea, and no energy. It was even worse last fall at 170. I would do anything to get rid of this apnea. Anyway, that's my deal at this weight.

Stegenrae I hope you will chime in with your experience at your weight also.

My "healthy" weight, where I don't look scary-skinny but I feel/look strong and my energy levels are good and consistent is around 130-135lbs. Like Buzzer, I'm in a size 12 or 14 at a weight which, for others, would probably put them in a 10 at most. I'm showing signs of metabolic syndrome, which is part of why I'm doing low-carb. (And ha--I didn't gain that weight doing low-carb; I gained it by cheating *constantly*) I'm doing better now and added in running and some Pilates-based ab work, so hopefully things will turn around. I got a bunch of "new" clothes today at my church's spring clothing swap since I was a bit smaller last summer. :( I hope to not need them for very long, but it became abundantly clear that I don't have much of anything that fits me properly. I caught a glimpse of myself at a weird angle in the mirror yesterday and OMG, I am going to "be good" and treat myself to non-food things instead of things that make me unhealthy and unhappy in the long run. My self-image is that of "athlete," and I'm not looking or behaving that way right now.

Oh, and you didn't sound rude at all, Trekkingirl...I appreciate the concern. But no worries--I've never been willing to starve my body just to look a certain way. When I've done body fat % at this weight, I end up in the "overfat" category, a wee bit close to the next higher level. (can't remember what they all were; it was a caliper-based %) We did that in a women's triathlon training class instead of BMI because so many of us had a lot of muscle and BMI means nothing when you're muscular. (Just ask my "obese" husband who has so little body fat, his abs and obliques are completely defined.)

Sry-enough rambling.

Is there still time for me to join?

I am 5'4 and 144. I have lost about 10 lbs in the last 4 months or so. Would love to lose the last 10 of my baby weight -I now have a 5 yr. old ;).

As far as I am concerned, it's not too later until it's not the 19th anymore.... After it is done being the 19th, and we have all the weigh ins, we will forms the teams, and announce those.

But, it's the 19th here, so my weigh in is: 179.3 (oops, I was supposed to do measurements too - I'll have to do that after work)

***I believe the lovely Barefootmama is going to be compiling weight results, so it would be a big help if you could all but your weigh ins in BOLD or COLOUR so they STAND OUT****

Rae, BB, etc - It's my opinion that you guys know what is best for your bodies, and I agree that the BMI chart isn't always perfect, I just wanted to make sure that the challenge wasn't pushing anyone into an unhealthy underweight category.  So far that hasn't been a problem, I was just trying to cover all my bases :)

Well...I was really dreading typing in this number...my current weight is 240.  (I've gained 110 pounds over the years redface.gif).

My game plan:

I have PCOS and am insulin resistant so I need to lower my carbs - which I have known for years but it is difficult to reduce my carbs as much as is needed.

I went to the doctor last week, she feels I might have thyroid issues and food intolerances so I am having thyroid testing done next week and sending in my ALCAT tests.  I'm pretty sure I am gluten intolerant so I will probably be eating gluten free.  I have been vegetarian for over twenty years - I think it will be more difficult eliminating gluten than meat/poultry/fish.

Luckily all my other blood work/test results are great.  I have never had issues with cholesterol, blood pressure, plaque in heart, stress tests, etc. so I am ready to exercise.

I feel overwhelmed by the amount I need to loose but every little but will help.

I cannot believe I thought I was fat when I weighed 130, worked out with a trainer daily, and had almost no body fat!  (ugh...if I could only have a talk with my younger self.)

I want in, and it's still the 18th in my time zone...

The scale literally broke this week, ha ha, but I'm pretty sure I'm unchanged since the last day it worked (based on which pants fit right now) so I'm comfortable calling myself

153 lbs and 5'5"

l'll get a new one tomorrow and let you know if that's not accurate. I'd be thrilled with a 1 lb per week loss.

Just so everyone knows, I am on east coast time in the US, and I will be getting the list together in the evening after the kiddos are in bed.  So the earlier in the day you can get your weights up, the better - but if you are late, I can go back and add them in - nothing to freak out over but with so many ladies it will help if we all try to post on mondays!!!

Good luck to all!!!!

Great! I am in!

I am 5'4 1/2  and 144 lbs.

OK, it is still Sunday for me, but I am going to post what I have.  When Milk8shake makes the teams, I will color code everyone so it is easy to see who you are on a team with.  If for some reason you need to pull out mid-challenge (and I hope we all make it to the end!!!!) It would be REALLY helpful if you could drop in and tell us so that we are not waiting for your posts.  If for some reason you are not on the following list and/or I get your nameweight wrong at some point in the challenge PLEASE do not take this as an intentional exclusion (we had this happen last time!).  I am human, and as such I make errors and typos!!  Please help me keep all the names and numbers correct by posting the error and the correct info so that I can correct it!!!  I am saving this in a word document in hopes that it will help minimize the clerical errors :)  And of course, for any latecomers - I will keep adding people to the roster until Milk tells me to stop.  She is the lady with the official plan :)

Ok, at this moment, this is what I have:

Alsom it would be helpful if we could all use pounds, and decimal points rather than pounds and ounces.  So 176.5 pounds rather than 176 pounds, 8 ounces.  If your scale will not read this way, I can convert your numbers, but it will save me some time if your scale does read in this mode.

Thanks ladies and I will post an updated chart tomarrow night!!!!

sorry if i missed this, but when should we check in each week with our  weight total?

5'8", 206 lbs

DH and I both weighed in this morning. I am 5'4" and 208.6. I can't believe I've gained about 12 pounds in the last two months!!!

Rae-Are you on TBW too? I think I recognize you, but I'm not there much now that my youngest wrapee is 3. :)

My plan is to do low-impact exercising until I have this plantar wart removed at the end of the month. Hopefully, once healed, I'll be able to start the C25K. DH is interested in that as well and would like to get a treadmill too. Woohoo! I'll also add in Jillian Michaels Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism around that time, and I also play competitive indoor volleyball one night a week. The thing I need to concentrate most on is logging calories over at my fitnesspal.

We check in on Mondays. I am still 208. Took the week off (ate a cookie for dinner tonight. :)

thanks!

Never been to TBW...I recognize your screen name too, though. Have you been to the ONE thread? Or the loss forums? Besides this one, those are pretty much the only other places I frequent. I'm in the middle of week 3 on C25K--I'd started barefoot running when I began, though, and my feet and ankles are killing me now. I'm going to my chiro tomorrow to see if she thinks I should continue with my barefoot shoes or switch to regular ones. (which is why I took today off--just too much pain, and I'd like to know I'm not exacerbating an injury, yk?)  BUT I had a pretty good food day. A few too many chocolate chips, but respectable. ;)
