Mery in Action Midwifery training

Anyone have any experience with them?  Either volunteering or training w/them.  I'm wondering just how much religion is involved in their program, among other things.

My experience with them was this. I emailed Vicki about getting some general information about the program, she was really quick about getting back to me with basic stuff about the program and how I could pay and get enrolled. I emailed her again with some specific questions regarding obtaining apprenticeships, email support during the program etc... never heard back. I've heard some nice things about this program, but I've been just researching programs for over a year, and I really needed that feedback about the program and it left a bad taste in my mouth to not hear anything after that. It felt like she was only willing to talk to me about enrolling and payment, and wanted nothing to do with any other concerns questions I had.

I am a CNM precepting a student from this program, called Mercy in Action.  I was surprised to find out this program is not an accredited program...it's not a midwifery "school" at all.  It is more like a study guide for learning the academic midwifery information on your own. Since you do most of your work on your own, there is very little input from this program, and I don't see ANY religious teaching in it at all.  I did some investigating and actually wrote an e-mail to Vicki.  I suspected my student searched on-line for the quickest, cheapest, easiest way to get her CPM, and I think she has found it.

I chose to enroll in MIA and I am glad I did. I used it for a definitive study guide for the NARM exam, which I will sit for in FEB. It is a thorough study program for someone who is self-motivated. I am on module 13 of 18. Each module is a series of questions on a subject and you research the subject in at least 3 NARM textbooks, find the answers and write them out. Then there are vocab. words and books to read and write book reports about. There are also some drawings to do.

I appreciate the work that MIA is doing, serving women in need and helping them have gentle births in the Philippines. I was glad that the $ I paid for the program was going to help this cause. There are also some extra modules they give you after you finish that are learning about serving in the developing world, which I am very passionate about...
