Anyone have experience with dogs that mark inside?

Tried to ask this on a breed specific forum.......and was accused of wanting to give back my dog.  No, i am not looking to give up my dog........Im just looking for advice.

Dog is 3yrs old, have had it 10mos and its not an every day occurance, just enough to be frustrating as heck.  He only does it in one spot now, on tile,  it was multiple before.  He is neutered and I crate him when we are not home.  He has been checked for UTI.  

I got super enzyme cleaner today, and a dog urine repellant......  A breeder who owns a local pet store told me she cured her dogs by yelling at them, (not catching them in the act mind you) taking them outside and praising them, then repeating both 2 more times.  She said it cured them, and one of hers is even unneutered.   Not sure I could do this, but im starting to get desparate.

Have talked to an animal trainer, vet, other people........have tried belly bands, crating, tying him by leash to me......

And im not even sure its actual marking bc its more than a few drops, its a full pee.....The trainer thought i should start over with full potty training like he's a puppy - which i did, and he went 5 weeks without an incidence......till today.....i did get a bit lax with taking him by leash to the backyard.....maybe i should start all over with that.....  

He's a great dog otherwise, we really love him - and i am determined to solve this issue. 

so if you guys have any other ideas.......links.....stories or just a smiley face.......please respond.  Its been a bad day - after getting

verbally abused on another site - i dont think i could take anything negative.  I was never so grateful for mothering.com after that experience.

i would continue the potty training and treat him like a puppy for a while, you could also consult a behaviourist (ie someone with actual credentials and not any person who deems themselves one). Have you checked for health issues at the vet?

He has been checked out by a vet and he's fine.  AND just got the name of a great behaviorist in my town - that came highly recommended from a good friend of mine who does rescue.  So super psyched about meeting with her and getting either more ideas on how to handle, or even a confirmation that to keep doing what im doing more diligently.  Thx!

is the person a certfiied behaviourist? Anyone can call themselves a behaviourist as there are no legal regulations and I have seen a lot of bad and damaging advice come from some of those people. If you want to pm the person's name and location I can check them out for you.

My friend had a problem with one of her dogs peeing on the leg of her mannequin.  So she stuck a food dish (with food) under that leg.  It worked.

Meanwhile is it possible that he can not hold it as long as you are asking him? Could it be that he is drinking more due to warm weather and can't hold it?

My show cocker (not neutered) temporarily lives with my brother and his fiance. After about a month of living with them he started marking and for them to fix it it was a matter of establishing themselves as leaders of the pack. He stopped marking very shortly after it.

Update - after two more incidences......he has not marked in the house now for a MONTH+ - and we actually have spent a couple nights away too!!  He has his little fenced in area, we praise and treat him when he uses it......its been great!  He is crated each and every time i leave the house.  We did find marking on our entertainment center and on a chair......then I got v diligent in cleaning.

the other thing i did - ive closed off the part of the house he marked in (after thoroughly cleaning).  I got a great enzyme cleaner, AND another spray that is a deterrant for INSIDE and OUTSIDE.  So ive even gotten him to go in his area and NOT on outside patio furniture etc!  I had to keep up on it every day and clean thoroughly outside, but that has been a major major win for us.  He hasnt marked outside on furniture in a long time.

I have yet to catch him in the act.......but once i caught him while it was still wet - and i did reprimand him - told him no, leashed him, took him outside to his area.....and that was the last time.  

And like everything else.......when he gets daily attention and walks, he is happy and does not mark.  Everyday i expect to find something - and nothing.......

 He is a small breed, so it could be that his issues are related to bladder size and amount of drinking, since he was emptying his bladder. When it starts smelling like urine in the house it can trigger real marking as well and they can also start treating those areas that smell like potty areas.

I think you are talking about dominance through alpha rolling and alpha dog status that is achieved through aggression. 

 I am talking about showing the dog that he has strong leaders in his pack and he has nothing to worry about through "nothing in life is free" training concept.

Yes - i think finding a good enzyme cleaner and this deterrant were KEY to curing this.  When i  got vigilant about the outside....that kinda helped with the inside too.  Bc he had clear idea of WHERE TO PEE.....

Believe me, i still dont trust him.  He cant be alone in the house at all.  But at least it has stopped for now.  

NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE - worked for me!  Whether its doing agility or just basic dog commands, feeding,  - i totally agree with this philosophy

hi--I'm sorry for not keeping on topic--but I'm new at this site.

rainsmom, did you have any luck with your cat with the broken femur? I have a one year old cat that just had surgery (in hope to form a new joint)....I'm looking for any advice and encouragement during healing/rehabilitation. I feel terrible for him. we truly have no idea how it happened. Any feedback would be awesome, good or bad.
