FINALLY!!!! I HAVE A NEW BABY!!!!!

He was born at 2:35 this morning, about an hour after my friend Amor, who was helping me, arrived. 

I had been having some bloody show and random contractions for a couple days. Saturday morning I was achy/crampy and had contractions and LOTS of show throughout the day, but not anything regular. By afternoon, I knew it would be sometime today, for sure, so we started getting the tub and everything ready. I texted my friend- she has four children and attended births including a mutual friend's UC. She was at a music show (I knew that was her plan for the evening) so I said that if she came over after the show, even if it was past midnight, it would be fine, probably good timing, but that I wanted her here. Around 11:30 I dozed off, still having crampy cntrx and trying to breathe through them. She got here at about 1:30. I checked my cervix, I was only about 4 cm, not very effaced, but baby was dropping still. Shortly after, the cntrx got way more painful, so I got in the tub. At this point, all my kids were sound asleep and I figured I had at least a few more hours because, no matter how intense my labor, I always dilate s-l-o-w-l-y. After several more challenging cntrx about 5 minutes apart, I was feeling like I really never want to endure that pain ever again... I felt for my cervix and couldn't tell what was what, except that the head was rightthere. Another cntrx and I felt the urge to push. I was scared because I didn't think I could have dilated enough by then, but apparently, I had. My friend got in the tub with me and supported my perineum while I pushed, and about 5 minutes or so later,  he was out, born in the caul. He cried right away. The cord was not very long and wrapped all around him, so we untangled him and I got out and onto the bed I had set up. He cried for a long time, but finally settled in to nurse. He has had TONS of meconeum, which I think was distressing him, but he is peaceful now. The placenta took a while to come, but after it did we all fell asleep for a few hours till full on morning, when everyone started waking up. Now we are resting and celebrating Mothers Day 

Oh, and I finally talked to my 11yo! It was very sad, but still made me feel better  He is very excited about his new brother too.

ETA: Interestingly, I had no tearing, almost no swelling, and almost no pain. I have never felt this good after birthing. Except for some uterine cramping, I don't feel any more discomfort than I would expect, say, after exercising for the first time in a while.... rather different from past births.

Congratulations Jess!! Was this your first waterbirth? I found with my two waterbirths compared to my three land births, I had no tearing (even with an over 9 lber), no swelling and practically no pain as well. I really think it was from birthing in water and the water preparing the tissues to stretch better! It makes a HUGE difference in recovering!!! Congrats and he is so cute!

So is this it? Are we done now? Was Jess' babe our last April (May) baby to be born?

This was my fourth water birth. My first one was the second easiest, but the two in between were very painful labors, especially my 11yo so I was really pretty scared this time. The birth itself was typical for me, that part is always fast, but dilating from 4 to full in an hour has never happened before. Honestly, I think it was because this was my most primal birth, just me and my friend, no kids, no man, no one and nothing that wasn't absolutely needed - I did need my friend and the water, but that was it!

And a big shout out to jennyvangy for keeping this thread up-to-date since the beginning, even after your own LO started keeping you extra busy! You even cross-referenced my DD's name announcement from a different thread and updated with it over here ... mad skillz, mama!!

So after waiting for four months to agree on a middle name so I can share his first name with you all we still don't have a middle and dp doesn't have time to make a decision oh well...I'm telling you all anyway lol

Baby boy A is for Atticus and hopefully 1. Atticus Hugo or 2. Atticus Eduardo and third runner up for middle name is Atticus Mateo but my birth father's name was matthew and so not to keen on any possibility of shared personality traits. 

I apologize for taking so long to share this with you guys but I don't always have access to a real computer and writing with my ipad really hurts my wrists. Eventually I'll get another moment without a toddler climbing on me and/or a baby in arms and I can post his birthstory :)

Yeah for another Atticus!!!  Do you really not have a middle name yet?  That's awesome. I thought it took me a long time to name my Atti, but we had the forms filled out at 5 weeks.  Good luck, and congrats!

Thanks. Yes, still no middle name at 5 months old. We're thinking maybe Percival. I called him Atticus Percy and he smiled. Our daughter when asked what she thought about the name said "Atticus Percival is the name I gave him" so we took it as a seal of approval along with her yes. We're going to try it out for a few days and see how we feel. Yay for Atticus's! :) I just hope it doesn't become too popular across the whole country. I thought I made the name up at 12 when I found a stuffed animal bunny in the $2.00 or less bin at Goodwill I named him Atticus Sparaticus. Then was delighted while reading "To Kill a Mockingbird" in high school to discover Atticus Finch. Love the name!
