Big baby twins + not so big car= WTF kind of carseats are best!?

I have two- strapping lads who are 8 months old, which means they're big enough to have completely outgrown their infant seats, though not old enough to face forward in our car (we're in Canada). We have new seats for them, but have realized they don't fit in our car rear facing, so we'll have to find a different rear facing option. Or buy a van...? Does anyone have recommendations for seats that are compact enough to rear face in a not so huge auto, though will accommodate our big baby twins? Oh car seats... suddenly I feel I'm fifteen years old in an algebra class again. Help please! :)

I'm not an expert, but you may be able to recline the seats you have less if your babies are big enough and that would give you more room. Your manuel will tell you what incline you need at their age.

First off, you are right, they are too small to ff.  You need to keep them rfing until at least two, and as long as possible is best (rfing is always safer).

Rfing, older babies like yours can be more upright, as upright as 30 degrees in most seats.  What seats did you buy?

We have the trufit in our echo & have found it doable but still leaves little legroom for us. We do really like the trufit though.

We dealt with this by going to a big box store that had various seats in stock. We ended up with two Radians fitting nicely in our car, with room for a person in the back seat as well.

We had also considered the Maxi Cosi Pria, but the person there thought the Radians were our best bet.

But I totally suggest going to a big store with seats in stock so you can verify. (you can then order there or online if you want variants they don't have)

If you want room to recline without hitting the front seat back, then the AlphaOmega 3--in1 with the removeable base removed worked for us - needed pool noodle to get reclined enough (inexpensive seat too).  But this seat is outgrown in the height much sooner than a radian (probably by age 3 for your boys).  If you want something that will fit in a small car and last until the boys are probably age 5 or so (longer if they are average height), the I would get the radian.

I went the "buy a minivan" route. I have never been happier. (I am also 6ft tall and *finally* have leg room!)
