I wanted to share this tip because I only recently discovered it by chance and it has really saved me a great deal of money. One of my local supermarkets sells produce marked way down when it cannot sell it the normal way. There always seem to be bananas, single bananas don't sell apparently, so the produce manager rewraps them and sells them at a steep discount. I have been regularly paying about 10 cents a banana. Same with loose apples (just bought two and a half pounds for $1.50), red and yellow bell peppers, even mangos and one time I bought a whole pineapple for $1. Sometimes the produce is even organic. The marked down produce is generally put out around 6:30 or 7 pm, so I had to kind of switch the time I shop. But the produce is always in very good shape and because we eat so much produce, it has been a help. I started nosing around at other supermarkets and some of them have similar things. So it pays to look around. A few weeks after I discovered the produce, I found in some remote section of the store another place where they discount things like bread. I have bought quite a few natural/organic whole grain breads for $1.28 a loaf; also high quality hamburger rolls and one time a whole bag of bagels. I just stick it in the freezer. Yesterday they had discontinued Tide detergent at a very steep discount in this section. Definitely worth searching around to see if your local shops have these kinds of sections.

I LOVE the clearance section of the store. Who knows what kinds of goodies I will find there. I also make sure I walk each and every aisle. Mark downs are sometimes hidden with the regular items too. My stores tend to 'discontinue' items but leave them on the shelves until only a couple are left before moving the stock.
Truly a treasure hunt when going to the store!
