How does baby know when I'm eating?

I swear she knows when I'm eating because she will go nuts moving around while I'm eating and shortly after! Does she really know and react to yummy food going in my body or am I imagining it?

Mine does too. And if my stomach is empty she'll punch and kick like she's saying, "Hey!!! Go eat something!!!" ROTFLMAO.gif

I have this happen too, although usually with a bit of a delay (as in the baby moves a ton just as I finish eating).  I assumed it was related to my blood sugar changing but I guess I dont really know.  When I went in December to have the blood glucose test (the lovely 3hr one) it was still early enough in the preganancy that I was just starting to really feel the baby consistantly but boy as soon as I sat down and drank that sugary orange stuff it moved around a lot! :)

i swear this little guy gets the hiccups anytime i eat!  maybe not every time, but definitely 3 out of 5 times or so i'd say.  it's the oddest thing because DD was never like that.  she'd get the hiccups a lot, but never when i was eating.

I mentioned this elsewhere, because my baby does the same thing-- big correlation between my eating and him/her getting the hiccups.  The thing is, my first son did this too.  And he ended up with multiple food allergies.  My second son rarely had in utero hiccups, and has no food allergies.  And I've talked with other moms of food allergic kids who have noticed the same phenomenon.  So... I'm not holding my breath (har har), but I will be paying special attention to possible food allergy symptoms once this baby is born.  I'm off wheat, but nothing else right now.

Nope - mine too. Usually when Im about halfway through my meal, she starts going crazy and keeps it up for a good hour or so!

When you eat it activates peristalsis in your guts.  Basically, when you eat, your gut gets a little kick and starts moving things along to make room for the new food.  You notice peristalsis more in babies and young animals - soon after they eat, they have to poop because their large intestine hasn't learned to slow things down and hold it in as much yet.  Your small intestine will always have this behavior.  I think our babies are hearing and feeling our guts as they start moving all around them.  That is my theory as it seems to be pretty common for all women.
