how to password protect files?

I couldn't find the right place to post this. How do either password protect certain documents or just password protect my entire desktop? I have an older windows (millineum (SP) edition).

There should be a security option in ms word. I think your system is too old fror desktop protecting. You might need to upgrade to use this feature.
