I'm seeing a MW this pregnancy and am planning a homebirth, but would like to find a back up OB for an US and just in case I'm transferred to the hospital. I know there are some at Miami Valley that are supportive of homebirth, but I work for Kettering hospital and if something did happen, my in-patient cost would be reduced due to me being an employee. I'm having trouble finding a doc who is homebirth friendly and delivers at KH/SVH...any suggestions? Thanks!
looking for a back-up OB in Dayton area that delivers at Kettering/Southview hospital
I am going to put this out, as you really need to speak with the person who is assisting you with homebirth. But, about 2-3 years ago, a local Mother (I am in Dayton) and Father were criminally charged when they were transported into Kettering Medical Center after problems with a homebirth (not 100% sure any longer, but I think Mom was having issues post delivery and they wanted to transport her, but not the baby). If I remember correctly, the original charges were child endangerment but were eventually reduced down to something else after the family spent a fortune on legal fees.
Point of my story --- DO NOT use Kettering or any of their associated facilities if you are considering home birth. As it is, they are not very supportive of VBAC, rooming in or anything of the like. While they do offer VBAC, most OB's there will not perform them. KMC requires separation of mother and baby quite a bit, including at night.
In all honesty, for your own safety go with Miami Valley or Good Sam if you want back up for a homebirth.
