I just ordered one from 31 Gifts. A organizing utility bag. It was only 25 bucks and I hear the reviews as a diaper bag are pretty good.

I carried a diaper bag that someone got me from Target with my 1st for about 3-4 years!!! It was just a simple black messenger style looking bag but it was very convenient to have extra diaper, change of clothers, baby carrier, small pack of wipes, snacks (when they were older) plus room for my stuff. It just wasn't the prettiest thing in the world.

I have recently started sewing (mainly to sew my own cloth diapers) and I saw a quilted diaper bag pattern using a Jelly Roll pack and a fat quarter pack and it is soooo adorable. Although, the one they made in the tutorial is a little bit too girlie for me, I have seen some very cute batik fabric in the jelly roll.

That is cute, triple07! I remember seeing that pattern online when I was searching for one a few weeks ago. 

I started sewing my diaper bag this weekend. I'm really happy with how it's turning out so far. I didn't have as much time as I would have liked to do it, though. Hopefully I can dedicate most of the weekend next weekend to it so I can get it finished.

Yeah, I think I found it after you shared your pintrest crafting for baby list, I decided to look up diaper bags on there and fell in love with this one.

I found a cute summery jelly roll at Tuesday Morning for *gasp* $5 and an inner lining for it on clearance for $4.50 for the 1 1/2 yards. I feel silly, but I had no idea how insanely expensive quilt batting is! I almost died at Hobby Lobby when I saw that the one I needed was $20. Thankfully I found the same one at Wal Mart for $10.

Most definitely! I probably won't get a chance to get anymore sewing done on it until next weekend, but I am definitely excited to share it with you all. Besides, no one else will really care about my new diaper bag. haha :)

This is my first real sewing project (besides making straight seams for baby wrap & curtains). And while its not perfect by any means I am very proud of it lol. It has 2 small pockets on the long sides, in between the straps and 2 larger pockets on the ends. I wish I would have had the foresight to put in at LEAST 1 pocket on the inside as well for things I don't particularly like keeping on the outside like my wallet or phone, though. The only thing I still need to do is find a fabric I like to make the long over-the-shoulder strap. The only leftover fabric I had from this jelly roll was a very kiddy/circus looking polka dot that I did not care for at all.

Next up will be my winter diaper bag (now that I know I can make it) in batik fabric :)

I love your diaper bag, triple07. So cute and soft looking. I like that it's nice, bright colors, too.

I actually finally finished the diaper bag I'd been working on. I've never made anything like this before so I was pretty darn proud of myself. 

ETA: The inside yellow is actually quite a bright yellow. Not sure why it looks a bit more ochre in the photos.

I also don't want a typical diaper bag. I can't tolerate having the weight of a bag on just one shoulder. So I was leaning towards backpack. But I ended up buying a teardrop style single strap bag http://www.mec.ca/AST/ShopMEC/Packs/Daypacks/PRD~5017-260/mec-big-pod.jsp. The single strap means I can swing it around to acess contents without having to remove it like you would with a backpack. I bought the Stone/Steel colour so both DH & I can use it.

I've also had people recommend that you keep a bag that stays in the car at all times. For emergencies. Like a survival kit. I think that's good advice.

Keeping a bag in the car for just in case sounds like a good idea. We have a few older backpacks that we don't ever use that would be great for something like that.

Somebody told me that too and it is great advice!  I love knowing that there is an emergency stash of diapers/wipes and clothing in the vehicle for each child.  And we just got a new-to-us Odyssey and it has this awesome in the floor storage where I stuff the extra diaper bag and any extra seasonal items we may need (hats, mittens, sunglasses, etc..) it is awesome!

The homemade bags are awesome!  I wish I had any sewing skill at all, those are so cute.

I have a bag from Bumble Bags that I got on babysteals.  It's a pretty basic bag  but is great quality and I love that I can just throw it in the washing machine.
