Boise WIC 'does not cater to vegans'

So I just moved to Boise and I figured we would benefit from getting WIC. When I called to make an appointment I asked if I should have our former WIC office in WA send over our file with our doctors note saying my kids are vegan and they should get soy milk and tofu. The lady on the phone said 'oh in our state we don't cater to vegans you can still get the fruits and vegetables though'. I can't belive it is so different just one state over! I really could use the extra food right now but don't know who to complain to about them not accepting veganism as a reason to get soy milk! Just had to vent!

Yes, WIC does vary from state to state =(. We've had it for a few months for our foster kids. In CA we can get soymilk and tofu, but you have to get an RX from an MD. So if you have dairy allergies, easy, but I'm guessing it's not always easy to get a RX from a Ped for being vegan by choice. I recently went vegan but my kids and DH are lacto-ovo at home. Hopefully one day I can get an RX for soy from WIC.
