so, how is your cervix lately?

Thread Starter

i keep track of mine every few days for the last 4 weeks of pregnancy. im just facinated by how smart our bodies are!

iv been so tight and closed up untill today, and all the sudden im at aboty 1.5-2 cm and much softer.

anyone get checked by dock or do self checks and know where they are at?

I've been doing self-checks every night because I'm putting EPO by my cervix. It's anterior, much softer last night than the rest of this past week, ~1cm dilated, not sure on effacement. I'd LOVE to be hanging out at a 4 right now (who wouldn't?) but I'm thrilled that my cervix is anterior. Last time around it didn't move forward until almost a day of labor, so this is a huge first step for me.

had the doc check me today and i am 3 cm and 80% effaced.

Oh poo.  I'm still bitter that I can't reach my cervix anymore (too posterior ATM).  Midwife got it about a week ago and said it was 1 cm, which is pretty meaningless since I've been 1 cm (pg or not, fertile or not) since DD was born.  Jealous of you ladies!  Of course I know it doesn't necessarily mean anything, but it is something to get excited about.

I am doing the EPO too ashley and I can't even really find my cervix. I haven't tried too awful hard but it must be posterior. I charted for years before getting pg so I definitely know how to find it. Her head is hanging out low though which is a weird feeling. How much EPO are you doing? I am doing it with the capsules over night vaginally and taking some orally as well instead of directly applying the oil to my cervix.

Flavorfull, I'm putting two capsules by my cervix when I go to bed. I'm usually up 30-45 minutes later and a lot of the oil falls out, but in my experience with Evie's labor EPO works pretty immediately for me. I bet the EPO is why my cervix is anterior and soft, for example. Either way, I'm keeping it up; anything to make this birth easier!

Here's a stupid anatomy question.

Why is it that my midwife can feel baby's head through my vaginal wall (umm, is that what you'd call it?), but I can feel her head (at least part of it) through my stomach right inside my left hip?  Is she moving that much, or am I wrong about what I'm feeling?  Or is her head that big?!

I have no idea because mine is so far up, which I'm guessing is because baby has been in the posterior position and so the weight of her head is on my tailbone rather than on my cervix. All I know is it feels really soft and mushy but it's reeeeally far back, so I have no idea how much it's dilated. Considering I have next to no BH, I'm guessing not very much!

Today doc said I was 2 cm, 50% effaced and -3 station. I find that interesting because I was 4 cm, 50% effaced and -1 by this time with my last few pregnancies. I think different providers get different numbers! My doc is male so if he goes by finger tip and my tiny MW went by finger tip they could be feeling vastly different things, YK?

Wow! I bow down to you ladies! I have never felt my cervix before. I feel I'm very in tune with my body...just not that part of it. I'm wayyyy to scared to even try to find it. How far up is it usually?

Mine, at 38.5 weeks pregnant, is barely reachable if I put both my index and middle finger in there. Just one isn't enough, apparently. So, pretty up high.

I'm posterior, about 50% effaced I'd say. I don't want to irritate myself too much so I'm not checking on dilation...plus it means nothing for me. My cervix is quite far behind baby's head....it's so low that I can feel 3+ inches of head down there...yikes!

Day- If you sit on the toilet(I find this the easiest position) you may need to insert your entire finger before finding your cervix. It will feel like a donut shaped area about the softness of your nose. It will most likely be located towards your back.

Kate- you're probably feeling the shoulder as the head should be right above the pubic bone...if your mw can feel head through the vaginal wall:) Or baby is curved around toward that side and you're feeling the lower, back of the head....?

Oh that does make a ton of sense, that it would be the shoulder.  She is curved around that side, so what I'm thinking is forehead could actually be the base of her head where it meets her neck.  Duh.  Thanks.

Midwife says dialated to 2 and she can feel baby's head. Baby is LOA and ready to go. She doesn't think
I'll go past my due date like I did with DD. she also stressed to get to the birth center ASAP once labor starts! Last labor was over 12 hrs so that's fine by me! She seems to think things will go faster this time & I'll have a baby by Easter.

MamaChick - That is super exciting! My MW thinks I have another week or two. I am only 1 CM.

I cant reach mine myself but last Tuesday when I was 36w my midwife said I was 1.5cm dialated and 50% effaced. Baby is still high up though. I have another appt weds so I'm excited to see if I've made any progress.

Well I can finally reach my cervix again!  Soft except for one edge, but I can't get enough of it to check dilation.  Its so silly, because I know it doesn't matter (for me, at least--I was 3 cm forever with DD), but I can't help but be curious.  Guess I have nothing else to really obsess about right now.  Midwife appt tomorrow a.m., but I'm not sure if I'll ask her to check me.  I probably won't be able to resist.

I'm too scared to check for mine. My mw doesn't do checks unless you ask...but I'm also too scared to ask. So yeah...I'm going to live in ignorant bliss, and just ride this out until the end wink1.gif She said its possible to have this baby without ever having any cervical checks, and I'm ok with that. I can't barely get through a pap without wanting to crawl out of my skin.

Honestly that's probably the better approach!  It really doesn't give you any useful info anyway.
