I have quite a list of things I want to get done around the house before baby arrives. Since our family has been continuously sick for the past two months, I missed out on much of that wonderful 2nd trimester energy to get things done.
One HUGE project was to get my basement cleaned out so that I could get help with laundry post birth. It was so bad I just couldn't ask anyone to go down there. But it was also a daunting project I couldn't do easily myself (heavy boxes, mouse poop, cat litter, dust, etc). I imagined it would take me weeks to slowly go through things with gloves and mask.
But the universe came to my aid in the form of a water leak! Yes, it was a bit stressful to take laundry down the steps yesterday afternoon to find half the basement floor covered in 2 inches of water. It must have been leaking for hours. But it meant that immediate action had to be taken. I got lots of help from DH (who I normally can't ask to help with these sorts of things) and my dad (bless his heart!) to get everything moved out of there. And the water damage made it a lot easier to throw stuff out (and DH wasn't going to argue about it since he hates to deal with yucky messes). And today, we hired someone to come and clean the place out top to bottom, move the remaining stuff back in, and haul the trash. What would have easily taken me a week to do on my own, was finished in less than 2 days.
I'm tired and exhausted and probably way over did it in the past 36 hours. But it is done! It was the biggest project on my very long list. Who knew that I'd be so happy to have a water leak!
