Very Baby.com

I'm due to have a LO at the end of May and plan on CDing.  I think eventually I'd like to try and make some of my own dipes.  I found the Very Baby.com website through a Facebook ad and was curious if anyone could to speak to the quality of their items and if their prices were relatively comparable.

Of course any other options, I am open to.  Being a newbie to CDing and to making them is, well, over whelming :)

I ordered my first diaper making materials from Very Baby almost 7 years ago.  What memories this brings up!  I think the quality is good and it's nice to be able to order many things from one place.  You may want to find a free pattern online and practice making a few with old shirts or other inexpensive materials before spending a lot of money on the good stuff.  But if you really want to do cloth diapers and sew your own the possibilities are endless!  I first bought the Very Baby fitted pattern and their Snug Wrap pattern.  I knew by then I didn't like velcro/ hook+loop closures so I also invested in a snap press.  Back then there weren't a lot of options but now you can find snap applicators for pretty cheap.  I sew some of my boys' clothes so the snap press has been used for clothes as well as diapers.  I also bought Fold-Over-Elastic, or FOE, from Very Baby since I can't get it locally.

I'm not sure about the price of Very Baby's things but it has been many years since I shopped there.  I know that there are many cloth diaper sewing supply sources available that weren't around when I was learning.  I mostly bought from coops once I discovered them, as they tend to sell for a bit less.  The trade off for coops, though, is that it can take a while for the stuff to get to you.

Last year I made a huge stash of diapers from verybaby.com  I used their flannel, org cotton velour, and a nice thick org cotton fleece for the doublers.  I also bought their velcro- the cheap one...  I have not used their pattern- I prefer to use the diaper kit.com pattern.  The flannel I thought was very nice- but didn't hold up at my house- so this time I just bought regular flannel at a fabric store closing.  The velour is wonderful- I am planning on buying some more as well as some sort of heavy cotton fleece for the doublers again.  The velcro has been wonderful- I am so irritated that I used the babyville velcro- that stuff is overpriced and junky compared to the lovely stuff I bought from very baby.  

HTH- I am going to be placing another order from them before I finish my new baby stash- this time with some PUL, foe, and more of that nice velour, and of course the velcro :)

Thanks for the feedback ladies!  I think I'll definitely practice with some cheap t-shirts first, that's a great idea!

iowaorganic - I often see flannel on sale at Joann's, usually the baby print stuff, is this the kind of flannel you're talking about?

Joanns flannel isn't very high quality unless you get the quilters' flannel.  I used some of their cute prints for baby blankets and they pilled quickly and faded.  The quilters' flannel is thicker and more durable, though with not so many cute prints.

Yeah it is- I have had better luck with that than the diaper flannel from Verybaby.  I did get a couple bolts of random flannel really cheap for at a dime store closing that I am using too.  It does pill and fade- but they are diapers and it is cheap fabric- so I am good with it.  The diaper flannel I had just fell apart in less than a year.  I have some awesome diapers made of killingtons flannel- and those are absolutely amazing- if you can find that it is really just ideal:)

on a random cheapskate note- I am using sheets for the middle layers- either flannel or jersey knit.  Pretty easy and cheap to find at a thrift store- or apparently my SIL has a huge stack that she is giving me :)  Just another suggestion...

I just placed my first order with very baby last week, and I am so happy with my purchase!  I had previously purchased all my diaper supplies at a local store (all babyville items).  They were expensive and only OK quality, but the very baby fabric and snaps are very, very good!  Their microfiber is excellent.  I am going to try their elastic and FOE next.  Their prices were also very reasonable.  I have to say that I do like the babyville diaper pattern, though.  It fits my chubby baby nicely.

Just placed my first order with very baby last week, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.  The fabric, especially the microfiber, is great quality, and so are the snaps.  Just finished my first diaper with their fabric today!  I had previously purchased babyville items at my local fabric store, but was disappointed by them several times, with both price and quality.  I will definitely be a repeat very baby customer!

Did you get a snap press or use snap pliers?  I have babyville pliers and wanted to try veybaby snaps with them.  Does that work?

I got the snap pliers from Babyville at my local fabric store.  The very baby snaps worked great with them...better than the Babyville by a lot, and much cheaper!

I am so glad you posted this!  So good to know for my next batch of diapers....
