pregnancy/breastfeeding for women in their 30's

I am currently breastfeeding my 20 month old and  am currently pregnant for my 2nd.  I am 34 years old and wondering if nursing during this pregnancy can effect my hormone levels and lead to a miscarriage.    I am only nursing my baby one time per day before bed, but I have a history of low progesterone and wondering if my age can also be a factor.

In general, breastfeeding is considered safe during pregnancy, and does not increase the risk for miscarriage.  While some physicians recommend weaning during pregnancy, this is not based on research study results.  In a 2009 study, the percentage of miscarriages was actually slightly lower in the breastfeeding group than in the control group (mothers who were not breastfeeding while pregnant).  However, your health situation may require special consideration, and I would suggest that you consult with your midwife or OB about your concerns.  Here is the link to the study I am quoting above:
