Where are you?

I am in Boulder, Colorado, but we are moving one town over (to Louisville, CO) next month.  My other babies were born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, so I'm getting to know a whole new birthing community.  I'm quite happy it appears to be a very Mama-friendly community!

Eastern Washington State.  Not the green part of the state...the brown, dry, desert part. :P

Chicago, Illinois. Neighborhood: Logan Square.

Moved here a few years ago from LA, where the women I knew had their babies at home and their children ran around naked for most of the year smile.gif. This part of Chicago is slightly crunchy, I guess- which I'm thankful for.

I love Logan square- I have only been to Chicago once and my friend lived there- it was summer and there was a great neighborhood festival.

I am from Albuquerque- never had babies there but friends did and I assumed when I moved to CA that it would be as natural birthing oriented- and to my surprise the laws and practices here really do not support birthing centers- so in my area there really are none.  Homebirth or hospital.  My friend in LA found a great one though.

I am in San Jose CA although it is a crazy city I found a wonderful quaint neighborhood.

Plymouth, MA!

Washington State---Western WA, the green, mossy wet side. It's very MW/home birth/AP friendly here. It's one of the things I really like about it, having grown up in NJ where people think even breast feeding is alternative. Great for raising kids here, but I really hate the weather 3/4 of the year. The other 1/4 is amazing though.

Houston, TX, here :)

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. We actually have a surprisingly robust AP and natural birth community here, especially considering our province has a reputation for essentially being the Texas of Canada.

hola.gif I'm in Chicago as well :)  Are you home or hospital birthing?  I'm using the midwives at Swedish.  Was going to go with Sarah Simmons for a HB, but money issues.. well, y'know.

Hello! I'm with the midwives at West Suburban in Oak Park. It's a hike to get out there, but they have their own practice separate from the hospital, so I just see them in their office for all prenatal visits and ultrasounds. I would have loved a home birth, but I'm having twins, and these are my first babies, so I (and the midwives) feel more comfortable delivering at West Suburban. I've heard good things about the midwives at Swedish, too. I may take a Bradley class there.

It's nice to meet you smile.gif

I hear ya lol.gif

Wendi- I've heard wonderful things about the midwives @ West Suburban!  I'm VBACing, and may switch to the Oak Park Midwives who use the birthing center there, depending on what I hear at my next prenatal appt.  At West Suburban, they require continuous external fetal monitoring for VBACs, but they use telemetry (wireless!).  Swedish requires it as well, but I'm not sure if it is wireless or not.  I don't want to be tied down during labor!

Congrats on your twins and best of luck!  I've also heard good things about the Bradley class @ Swedish.  My midwives rave lol.gif

Hi...I'm new to the ddc and also in chicagoland area in the northwest suburbs. I am with the west sub midwives as well for the second time.

Looks like I'm the 4th in Chicago - maybe we could GTG sometime over the summer.  :)  I'm having a HB with Debbie Boucher.  She's far, but we're on the far NW side of the city, and it actually doesn't take that much more time to get to her than it would to schlep on surface streets to Oak Park or Lakeview.

I'm in Kansas City, MO. Depending on what happens with my job we'll probably be moving across the state line to KC, KS a couple months after the birth. I REFUSE to move before. Just not gonna do it. While KC as a whole isn't crunchy, there's a nice AP community here. Midwifery is finally legal in both states and we'll be homebirthing again.

She's the one in Libertyville, right?  I was going to use her for this birth (she takes Medicaid!!) but she can't do VBACs unless you've had one vaginal birth after the c-section and are attempting a second (or more).  This is my primary vaginal birth after c/s (though I did have a vaginal birth with DD1!) so I'm risked out for her :(  Let us know how it goes, though!   I hope to use her for my next birth, whenever the heck that will be..hopefully a few years after this one lol.gif

And yeah, travel isn't too bad from the suburbs to the far NW side.  I'm right off of the 90/94 break so we frequently have outings on DH's days off at places in the suburbs.. easier getting to say, Schaumburg than it is to get to Lakeview from here!
