Hi everyone. I'm a mama to a 7 year-old girl with multiple disabilities (she had a brain injury due to perinatal asphyxia) and a 5 year-old boy who is neurotypical. My daughter has CP with developmental delays, hearing and visual impairment, a seizure disorder and a bunch of other diagnoses. We use a combination of ASL and spoken English to communicate. We've worked with several medical specialists, therapists and educators, and have tried many modalities of therapy. Anyway, I'm crazy in love with both of these kids.
I have great friends and a supportive husband, but I still sometimes feel that parenting a child with disabilities can feel isolating. I've always liked Mothering--I never thought to look here for a "Special Needs Parenting" group. I'm so glad I stumbled into this part of the site and I look forward to sharing with this community.
