Resources

Hi there!

Thought I'd start some new threads in the hope that more mamas (or dads) will join in to share their experiences too.  Finding a connection with others is so helpful.

So, I thought I'd start off with my list of resources that I've found useful personally. Of course, this is a very short and incomplete list.  It just happens to be what has been sitting beside my bed....

Books:

Asperger Syndrome and Long-Term Relationships by Ashley Stanford (her DH and children have AS, so she is able to write from her own experience.)

The Asperger Couple's Workbook by Maxine Aston (just got this one and it looks useful. It has lots of practical things to try, including in parenting.  Not sure they will all work for us, but there are still a lot of good ideas)

The Other Half of Asperger Syndrome: A guide to an Intimate Relationship with a Partner who has Asperger Syndrome by Maxine Aston  (has a helpful, but too short, section on parenting with an AS parent)

I haven't read this one yet, but wonder if it might be helpful for understanding parenting issues in an AS family:

Something Different About Dad: How to Live with your Asperger's Parent by Kirsti Evans

Articles:

(these are some of the first things I read when I began to look into AS.  Again, there is so much more out there now, but these ones were my starting place).

Love and Aspergers Syndrome- http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/3354140/Love-and-Aspergers-syndrome.html

Somewhere Inside, a Path to Empathy by David Finch (an AS husband and father)- http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/17/fashion/17love.html_r=2&scp=9&sq=aspergers%20syndrome&st=cse

Thanks for this! I didn't know there were books!

Someone pointed me to this blog and I really like it:

The rest of the blog also deals with parenting with a parent who has Asperger's.
