Ok, I am flipping out.....any advice?

Greetings Mammas,
I am embarrassed to say that I am freaking out over here.
My spouse just returned from a business trip to Europe last night. He contracted the flu when he was there, as did several of the folks he was traveling with.
He returned on Sunday night with no fever, but to back up....he started feeling ill wed/thurs...and then thurs. night he was up all night with a very high fever (he had no way to check, but he had chills, sweats, etc.) Thursday night was the worst. Friday he had a mild fever during the day and night, and supposedly the fever was gone by sat. He has a residual cough from time to time, slight runny nose and a little chest discomfort but now feels basically ok.
Everything I have read says that the flu is contagious 5-7 days after symptoms begin, which means myself or my 2 year old could easily get this.
I know there is nothing we can do except be vigilant with our hygiene (and he is sleeping in the guest bedroom)....but I am SO SCARED of getting the flu at this point in my pregnancy since I keep reading how dangerous it's is!!!!!
None of us had flu shots, of course, and since there are a million strains of flu it may not have protected us against this one anyways.
I don't know if it's the hormones...but I am crazy worried and crying about this, which is nuts because there isn't a damn thing I can do other then what I am already doing!
I increased my vit d and vit c, and took some elderberry....although now I read you are not supposed to take elderberry in pregnancy. Awesome. Something else to worry about.
Anyways....anyone have any words of wisdom for this insane pregnant woman? smile.gif I'm 10.5 weeks now.

I got a bad flu with this pregnancy and had H1N1 with my middle daughter's pregnancy. Keep hydrated, even if you are throwing up. Try to eat mild food, even if you are sick. Get rest. Wash your hands and try to not share food/drink. Other than that you should be fine.

I'm not sure if my facts are correct, but I had a flu scare earlier in pregnancy, so I did some reading, but have forgotten a lot. The first concern is a fever over (??) 101 or 102, you'll have to clarify, for extended periods. The critical time is when the neural tube is forming around 7 weeks I think? So it sounds like you're far enough along now, that you're out of the really worrying phase.

The second concern is hydration of course.

I would put a call in to the dr, midwife etc that you are seeing and ask what the temperature safety concerns are, and what fever reducers are safe (I believe it's tylenol)  Check on any safe herbals, supp's etc. (taking extra vit C for example, but check how much "more" is safe, I believe super high doses are not good while pregnant) I've also read that elderberry is not good while pregnant.

Then I would get stocked up on soups, safe supp's & herbs, stock the freezer, get all your necessities in order and hang tight. Stay far away from sugar (reduces immune system) and pack in whatever healthy stuff into you're body you can tolerate to give it some strength (eg. if you can tolerate some green smoothies, that would pack in some nutrition)

I remember the panic about the flu too, but there are many women who go on to have healthy babies after dealing with the flu - you just need to take extra care of yourself.

finges crossed the quarantine works, and you guys escape it!

My whole household has the flu right now, it seriously is miserable while pregnant.  I would give my right arm for Nyquil just to sleep more than 2 hours!!  I spiked a fever yesterday but have kept on top of it with tylenol and I'm drinking 70-80oz of tea/water/acv with honey and lemon.  It is absolutely misery and I really hope you don't get it.  My kids are all sick, too, so no rest for the weary.  I am doing nasal rinses, I tried Sudafed out of desperation and it didn't do anything!  Hang in there and try not to worry.  My OB said to push fluids and let it run its course, I see her Thursday.

Angel....SO sorry to hear that you all have the flu!!! Ugh!!!!
I hope you all feel better soon. Give us an update after you see your doc. My midwive sort of scared me by throwing out the Tamiflu option since i will basically know immediately that its the flu if i get symptoms, even though it's a class c in pregnancy. Glad to hear Tylenol and fluids can get you through it, albeit miserably, because I am not going to take tamiflu!
