Thanks for the new thread!

I'm steaming some carrots right now. I'm going to mash them up and let Conner play in/with them while I eat my dinner. I got a tray for his Bumbo seat. I'm so excited! LOL

He's 5 months old as of yesterday. He has his final kidney U/S tomorrow to double/triple/quadruple check that his Hydronephrosis cured itself like they thought it would.

Oh. He also STTN last night. He's been adding an hour to his straight sleep all week. It's been weird. LOL First night, 3am. Next night, 4am. Next night, 5am. Two nights ago, 6am. This morning, 7am (His normal wake-up time). LOVE IT.

Ash, Bettie is 12 pounds? Yeah, that's tiny for a hip carry. Shay was 9 pounds at birth, so he had quite a head start on her. He's been riding on my hip since almost 3 months which was pretty big.

Carey, I carry Shay almost exclusively on my hip now. He sleeps anywhere he can reach a boob. I'll see if I have any pictures.

When he falls asleep on my hip I sometimes center him.

I sometimes leave him on the side where he started (put a coat over us both, it was a cold day.  When he's awake I can pull the sling down a bit and have breathing room between our torsos).

We sold the car he was born in.

Sara I like that lip stud!

Did the people who bought the car know he was born there? Was it sad to see it go because of that?  So cool to see him chilling in the front seat where he was born!

Sara, that must have been so difficult to sell that car!  Sort of like how I know I'll feel if we move out of this house b/c of how I felt when we moved out of the house that Austin was born in.  Sigh...

Yeah Bettie is 11 pounds right now.  Im currently only using my Moby.  She has good muscle control, so Im thinking of trying t something new soon.

NAK....

Tiny rant..  My toddler has what is probably walking pneumonia.  She was diagnosed with a sinus infection, but since then several of my friends kids have been diagnosed with pneumonia.  She's coughing a lot at night, so I'm not sleeping well.  My dh is out of town on a business trip for a week.  I'm really tired.  I hate being really tired.  Ugh!  Positive note, several pairs of my pre-baby pants fit me today!  Woo hoo, I was getting so sick of the 2 pairs that I've been wearing.

Abra, that sucks!  It never fails that when my dh goes out of town that my kids get sick and are up at night either throwing up or coughing or both.  I'm so sorry you're going through this!  Now, I'm not proud of announcing this, but when times are dire, I do dose my kids.  There aren't any approved cough meds out there, but what about something that will knock her out like children's benadryl?

Congrats on the pants, though!  That's always exciting!

I already gave up and started her on the antibiotics that she was prescribed a few days ago, I think that's probably enough as far as meds go..  Well, that and I'm covering her in Vicks Vabor rub at night, which helps for a few hours.  I really hate antibiotics, but we have to fly to my BIL's wedding on the 11th and I want this to be done before that.  It's already been going on for weeks and seems really painful for her when she's coughing.

Sora hasn't been sick yet, and I have to tell you, I think I'm going to be ridiculously on edge the first time my little baby girl falls ill! You all make me dread when that day arrives. Sheepish.gif I'm going to be watching her like a hawk thinking that every cough or sniffle is life-threatening. I'll never sleep. lol.gif

I got a call from WIC today.  They WIC lady wanted to talk to me since I was "at risk".

Me:  "What do you mean, I'm at risk?  At risk of what?"

WIC:  "Oh, well, you filled out this questionnaire that asked where your baby slept, and you said your bed, so that's why you're at risk.  The baby's at risk of dying from SIDS.  It's kind of like... co sleeping?"

Me:  "Yes, we are cosleeping.  I've done my research, and actually, breastfeeding and cosleeping are the safest way a baby sleeps.  It's formula feeding and cosleeping that makes a baby at risk for SIDS."

WIC:  "Yes, I see you've done your research, and that's right.  It's just that on this form we have to fill out, it's considered a risk.  Does the baby have a crib or bassinet?"

Me:  "No, the baby does not have a crib or bassinet.  We cosleep."

We talked about breastfeeding going all right, and then she told me that because I'm at risk, she'd like to do a home visit, if that was all right.

Me:  "No, I'm not really interested in having a home visit.  I'm not interested in receiving WIC coupons anymore."

WiC:  "No?  Why not?  Don't you want the free food?  Don't you want the milk and cheese and eggs?"

Me:  "No, I don't.  I'm actually growing food in my garden, and I work for a farm, so I get lots of free produce.  I like drinking local organic milk, and WIC coupons don't cover those.  The same goes for my eggs.  I like fresh local farm eggs, not ones that come from disgusting factories.  I don't want to pass on to my baby any more pesticides or chemicals than I have to."

WIC:  "Don't you want to talk to the nutritionist before you decide?"

Me:  "No, I've talked to the nutritionist, and they don't allow organic food."

She told me I could still change my mind until Luca is a year old.  I thanked her for her concern.  GEEZ!

Sara, could you tell me more about using a sheet for a sling?

I took Luca around today in the hip carry.  It was a nice walk, but he doesn't lean in, but out, which made it not so snugly.  He was trying really hard NOT to fall asleep at the time.  I'm sure we'll get better at it!  I am really enjoying the back carry with the ergo.  It feels like I'm not even carrying him.  I managed to make most of dinner that way.

Not sleeping sucks!  My dh and I are both tired!  I think Luca's getting his upper canine in.  He's been chewing like crazy.

Abra, sorry that Olivine is sick! Not enough sleep sucks.

Sara, can you fill me in on how to make a sling out of old sheets? I totally want to do that.

Jaime, in response to your last post about sex, yes I agree that your dh has to do more. I like some of the other suggestions: lots of lube (and good lube). You can never have too much lube. Wine or beer. Lots of foreplay. O'ing beforehand. I can write more when I have more time!

It's spring break here. Dsd went to visit her grandma for a bit, and dd1 was invited to go to the beach with a friend (wow!). So dh and I took Jasper and dd2 on a short trip. We went to Chattanooga, got a hotel overnight, and went to the Tennessee Aquarium. It's a really nice aquarium. I think the highlight for dd2 was the indoor heated pool. smile.gif We all had a good time. Jasper was fascinated by the aquarium! We got a super cute pic of him staring at the tanks. I'll have to post it later.

Also, I was reminded of something Sara said about feeling like an awesome mom if it weren't for that wildcard kid. Man, I love dd1 to death, but if I just had Jasper and dd2, I'd think I was mom of the year. I'd probably be all Judgy McJudgerson about people with kids who don't listen. Lol. Oh, and I don't include dsd because I take no credit for her. She was awesome when she came into my life and remains awesome. love.gif Okay, I think I will start taking some credit for the continued awesomeness... hehe.

That is so nice. Oren has had bronchiolitis (resulting in an ER trip), the stomach flu and 3 regular colds in his 4.5 months (and I've had all but the bronchiolitis, too). It's mental. I guess that's what happens when you have an older sister that plays with other kids every day. I have friends with 7-month-old twins that have literally only been healthy for a few weeks their whole lives. They got their first illness at just 2 weeks old, poor babies, and have only had like 5 days of health between each illness. But their older brother is in daycare, so it can't be helped. I think this is where most of O's illnesses came from, to be honest. Oh well, he'll have a nice robust immune system.

Joanie, Shay has had one cold so far, right around 4 months.  He was fine.  Each of my big kids has needed antibiotics once. They've never been to the ER or urgent care.  They've had three acute doctor visits between them.  Not all babies get sick a lot.  LOL, I'm nervous about the next baby.  DPs mom said the doctor would call to check on her when a month passed between visits.

Slings from a sheet:

Cut in half you can do these

th_photo-36.jpg?t=1333460840     th_photo-37.jpg?t=1333460939      th_f818.jpg?t=1319991478       th_1333158091.jpg

Knotted                        Knotted                         Back Carry                               Sewn into pouch sling

(^I use a square knot, but this looks awesome)                                                   (She doesn't use a sheet in this video, but I have.

You can also skip the lining)

You can cut a sheet into the shape of a:

Podeagi

You can sew:

Mai Tie

Or use a french seam to make a long wrap

There are more using a whole sheet, but the baby woke up.

I sewed a mai tei for a friend over the weekend- its VERY simple if anyone is interested I can tell you the dimensions I used, no pattern needed.

Conner's only been sick once, too... And it as also right around his 4-month mark. It required two doctor visits... One to diagnose/prescribe antibiotics, and one for a follow-up.

Dylan has been sick twice, but they were the most minor colds ever.  Slight sniffles- didn't even interrupt his sleep or nursing.   The first was when he was 3 days old- even though everyone told me he wouldn't get my sickness that I had while in labor- and the second was about 3 weeks ago.

Im unsure if B has a cold right now or if she is teething- its like never ending snot and slobber...her face is a constant mess.
