Unfortunately, parents abuse their children in many ways, and although she faces "felony" charges, my guess is that those charges will be reduced to abuse and neglect.  As a result, she will not have unsupervised visitation with the children, but she will retain her rights.  Parental relationships with children are not easily severed as perhaps they were in years past.  The child on the other hand, often loves and tried to protect the abusive parent, and may even want to stay with them for what ever reason.  Courts do not always do what is best either I am sorry to say.  I hope that everything works out for you, as many parents file bankruptcy after being exhausted by the court system.
