We are working on getting a Grant that will allow us to create a Booklet about Pregnancy and Birth choices in Alaska! Looking like it will be 20 - 32 pages long!

I'm not 100% sure right now, but based on previous Provider Guides the Alaska Birth Network has produced, the cost of advertising was $50 for the year.  $100 for multiple listing (such as if a Birth Center wanted to be listed under "BIRTH CENTER" and "MIDWIVES").

We currently have an Online Guide here

http://alaskabirthnetwork.org/alaska-midwife-providers-obstetrcian

and we also have a paper guide that gets passed out locally. We also send a bundle of guides to each of the out of town providers that are listed.

Our future project will be amazing! And we plan to encompass as much of the state as possible. We have plans for 12 topics specific to Alaskan Families as well. A very nice book that everyone will want to have and share.

Mama's, we have been making birch syrup for over a week now. We will have a few extra 8 ounce jars that we can sell. $15 to locals!

Hi, Alaska mamas! I just posted a little introduction in the Pleased to Meet You forum, but I wanted to make sure to say hello here as well. I'm down in Homer and loving the beautiful sunshine we've been getting. My 17-month-old son wants to be outside all day long, and I can't wait to take him camping this season. We went once last year, but he wasn't walking. Hope you're all well, and I'm excited to join this forum!

How are we all enjoying the month of May, AK moms? I'm loving it, mostly even though the weather hasn't been outright fabulous. We just finished planting flowers and strawberries.

I love your blog! I'm Tammy and we live in Anchorage for the time being. We are moving and going on a road trip soon. I happen to have a blog too.

A little boy same age as my Spencer is missing his service dog.

At least the dog is missing instead of dead but still almost makes me cry after what we went through last summer losing my son's support companion to a speeding truck.

This is KGB area of Wasilla -- please keep your eyes open!!

Essential Oils Bug Spray

This is my own spur-of-the-moment recipe with essential oils I had on hand. I'd like to have peppermint oil in it as well, but am out.

Makes 10 ounces.

Part one :

2 oz Sesame Oil    (can use olive, grapeseed, ect. Any liquid oil good for skin will do)

1/2 - 3/4 tsp Emulsifying Wax / E Wax *

Heat your oil until very warm, but not to simmer or boiling stage. Mix in wax flakes until completely melted.

    * E Wax is not an all natural organic ingredient. It's purpose is to help the oils & other liquids remain blended together. You can skip this if you want, but you will have to shake vigorously before each use.

Part two:

1/2 tsp Tea Tree Oil

1 tsp Neem Oil

1 tsp Citronella Oil

1/2 tsp Eucalyptus Oil

1/2 tsp Lavender Oil

Mix all essential oils into part one mix.

Part three:

1 1/2 oz Vanilla Flavoring

or

1/2 oz Pure Vanilla Extract

6 oz Witch Hazel   (if using vanilla flavoring)

or

7 oz Witch Hazel   (if using pure vanilla)

Using a fork or whisk blend liquids thoroughly into oil mixture.

Pour into spray bottles & be sure to label them!

I'm going to try the bug stray.  Thanks for that.  And now it's June. I haven't been on much but I just changed my signature and wanted to use it!!!

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer.

Hi Alaska moms!

Thought I would introduce myself here since it seems to be the most recent Alaska thread.

I'm 30yo, live in Anchorage with my husband, and we're expecting our first baby in December.  We're working with the midwives at Geneva Woods and overall are just very excited about this baby.  We're both committed to keeping it simple and acquiring as little unnecessary items as possible, and getting most things used.  I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts on the best places to buy cloth diaper supplies used in town, and about swaps or events in the area to get used stuff in general.
