can someone find the thread reegarding birthing choices and a law

Thread Starter

There is a post here somewhere showing a law or regulation stating that you cannot be forced to deliver in a hospital (in regards to your insurance) I cannot for the life of me find that thread now.

Anyone?

The only law I am aware of like that is in New York state and says that insurance companies must cover home birth as well as hospital birth. That is not the law in all states.

Piggybacking on this thread to ask - what about gap coverage for CNMs, etc.?   We were denied gap coverage last time because they did cover one CNM (hospital-based only) but now they have none in their network - is there a law that says they must cover all types of practitioners or something similar?  I thought I had read about it, but now I can't find it...We're in CA with a PPO.

If your insurance has a covered benefit, say home birth, and there are no in-network providers who offer the service, you can apply for a gap exemption. That would allow for an out-of-network provider to be covered at the in-network rate since there is a "gap" in the coverage availability. There is no law saying that insurance has to cover all provider types or all services.
