BF suddenly painful again at 10 months

DS is a little over 10 months now, and has two top teeth coming in- you can see/feel their little ridges in his mouth. No bottom teeth yet.

Suddenly, BFing is very painful again, like it was in the first few months. He isn't really biting me, but when he latches on, and again when he comes off, the pain is pretty intense. The rest of the day, my breasts just feel very very tender. Even latching up my bra hurts. And pumping at work hurts a lot now too.

I'm using lots of lanolin, but it doesn't seem to be helping a lot. I don't know what's wrong or why this is happening. The latch looks the same as it ever did. DS has always been a pretty aggressive nurser- his latch is very tight and he sucks forcefully. But it hasn't hurt since he was about 3-4 months old. I don't get what's going on. Do babies get a stronger/tighter suck again when they get teeth?

Is there a chance you a pregnant? That could cause it, as well as thrush.

I've got the same problem right now- DD is 10 months has 2 bottom teeth and the top ones are coming in. Strangley, I just feel it on the left side. I also am developing a hard patch on that same side around the area where I had to have an abscess from mastitis drained back when she was 3 months.

For me, this happened when my cycle returned- right around the time I'm O'ing, nursing gets painful.

This happened to me when my cycles started again. It continued to be painful around ovulation for maybe 3 or 4 cycles, and then it returned to not being painful.

I've had this...felt like needles being jammed in my nipples.  A couple of days of topical Nystatin cured it, but two applications made it about 80% better.  I had no visual symptoms, but it was a yeast infection on my nipples.

Gentian violet is also recommended for thrush/yeast infections, but I was not able to use it effectively, so it was not the answer for me.

Those are all great comments so far.  It could be the return of your cycle, pregnancy, or an infection (like thrush or staph).  My advice would be to talk to a local lactation consultant.  I think that could be really helpful in your situation.  Let me know if you need any help finding one.
