We are a group of 14 parents in Ukrainian Village  who are four months into the process of starting a cooperative community playspace.  We need a few more families!

UVCC is a group of parents committed to creating a supportive community for our families to share in an open environment of learning and play.  UVCC offers  events for Children from ages 1 to 8 years old.  The Co-op owns a large collection of developmentally appropriate toys, books, games, play equipment with a variety of art supplies.  Mornings are dedicated to early childhood development open play with afternoons catering to after-school open play and/or arts and crafts classes for children ages 5-8.  Weekends are host to all ages events including arts and crafts classes, open play, music classes and Saturday “parent’s night out” movie events.  Prospective members should plan to attend one or two events at the co-op before joining.  All of our programming is led my parents, not professionals.  We each spend $50 for the right to use the space when we want for coop events we join or initiate and to have birthday parties there. Each family commits 4 hours a month to either offering classes, cleaning or assisting the coop in some other way.

Mission Statement:

Our mission is to create a nurturing environment for young children to explore, experiment, and create through social interaction and hands on learning. Parental involvement allows parents to understand and have input into their child's experiences, individual progress, and developing friendships while gaining a better appreciation of their own role as a parent.  It is also a great place for mothers and fathers to make friends!  Some of us have children at cps schools and we fee like they don't get a good opportunity to engage in creative play in a group when they are at school. We try to give them the opportunity at our coop to engage in the creative play we wish they were experiencing at school.

Where we are at right now is that we have a majority of members with older kids 4 and up. We are doing a really good job offering regular after school classes led by parents, putting on movie nights for this age group and having occasional weekend events like egg dying this month.  We do not have a lot of members with younger kids. We need people to join and participate in morning and afternoon meetups and add to our mix of ages.

We will have an open house this Wednesday (4/11) from 12- 2 pm if anyone would like to stop by and meet some members and see if you are interested in joining us.
