Around these parts, there ae a few different illnesses seeming to make their rounds. We thought we had gotten off easy with something that seemed like ( and may have been, in all honesty) a bad seasonal allergy attack.
you know those parents that brig ridiculously sick kids to playgroup? Well, I had one show up at my house on Monday sporting a toddler with a temp. of 104 and a sick 5 month old ( plus 3 more). My kids didn't touch the sick ones, but they did play with the others while i tried to help the Mama get some meds into the 3 year old. Don't ask why she couldn't do it herself, or why she didn't just take him to the ped like I suggested ( the child has a history of seizures....). Yes, I should have just asked her to go home... yes, I have boundary issues. We practiced some extra vigilant hand washing and hoped for the best.
Of course everyone in her house ended up sick- she let me know when she called to cancel our Thursday playdate...concerned that she would get us all sick "with me about to have a baby and all."
My girls ( almost 3 and almost 6) woke up with ridiculously high fevers today. Ridiculous as in I have never dealt with this high a fever inmy parenting career thus far. Typically, I don't medicate fevers, but these are high enough that I have to bring them down.We usually use herbs, and I have used those in conjunction with the meds to get these temps down. Bringing them down means 101-102 range. Other han that, they have good appetites still, seem groggy, but perk up once the fevers come down...so I am not too terribly concerned for them.
However, I am nervous about getting this myself. It seems to be quite contagious and have a longer than I am used to incubation period. I know that my midwives ask that you come in if you have a temp. over 101.4, and these temps are way over that. I realize that most likely my temp wouldn't get as high as the girls' have, but I am still concerned.
What exactly do they do if you come down with a very high fever like this, at this point in pregnancy? Any experience...suggestions, etc.?
