Please consider coming to a rally to support one of your own Indiana homebirth midwives. A rally is being held for Ireena Kesslar tomorrow, Monday, April 9th, at 11am at the Lagrange County Courthouse. The address is 105 N. Detroit St., LaGrange, IN. If you can't come to show support, please consider sending money for her legal defense fund.

She was arrested on Saturday. Not because of a bad outcome, no death or injury, but simply BEING a midwife in Indiana who is NOT a NURSE midwife. She is a CPM and has participated in over 1700 births, hospital and home births, to her credit. She was a LPN/LVN prior to becoming a homebirth midwife. She saw hospital birth and home birth. She is the second of two out of hospital midwives who have been arrested in Indiana in the last month. This is especially signifigant as CPM's are legal and licensed in nearby Wisconsin, and in neighboring Michigan, activists are fervently seeking the same opportunity to be licensed and "legal". But in Indiana, midwives and their advocates have been trying for 17 years to get legislators to see the importance of licensing CPM's and recognizing their worth and need in the community. It has been an uphill battle. I personally believe that Ireena has been targeted because she is more visible, having been active in the Indiana Midwives' Association and in other advocacy groups. Please help, within your own budget. Thanks!
