Tell me about life in birmingham

Hello mamas,

I have lived in midwest for past several years that I am in US and now we may have to move to birmingham AL. It seems like a big nice city but I know no one there and a little scared as well curious about how the culture is...is it generally AP friendly? Are people helpful? Kid friendly?

Anything you can tell me about the city will be helpful!
Much thanks in advance:)
Amy.

I know this is a little late.  I am an AP in Birmingham and honestly I feel really alone sometimes.  Don't get me wrong there are a decent amount of babywearers and breastfeeders that can be found if you look in the right places.  However, as a whole you will not find much support relating to AP from the general by-stander.  Like at my work- I don't know a single person that is into AP.  You have to seek out like minded folks.  Birmingham is very politically and socially conservative.  In general there are lots of cool things to do here--lots of greats parks, hiking etc.  The schools are great based on conventional standards.  With all that being said, Birmingham is the most progressive city of Alabama.  I hope this helps.  Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Thank you Kelly for replying! At the time of OP we were looking at Birmingham but life has now brought us to Cleveland Ohio! I have been here just 2 months now and feel lonely as well. Finding like minded mamas is just so hard specially as you become older it's just hard to bond with new people greensad.gif
I feel your pain smile.gif

I really hope u find a good friend soon .

Thanks Amy! My family will be attending a nature hike coordinated by the local babywearing intl chapter this Saturday.  Looking forward to meeting some new folks there!

I'm in Bham as well and plan on doing AP--more or less lol--when my first is born in a couple weeks. I mostly see baby-wearers and nursing moms at places like Urban Standard downtown or Whole Foods. Most folks I know personally are babywise though, which can be pretty frustrating. Message me if you want to get together sometime for some AP mom time, Kelly. And Amy, good luck in Cleveland.
