This is scary. How much should I worry? Period/BCP-related (Warning: Gross)

I'm having a pretty heavy period in terms of blood flow, and my pad leaked again, so I took a shower to clean myself up... and as I was squatting down in the shower about to sit, I saw a surprising amount of blood gush out. (I'd been sitting on the toilet before getting in the shower, so I figured anything pooled in there would have come out then.) I felt something weird, and I reached down and felt this weird thing hanging out of my vagina. I pulled it out (or just broke it off?) and it was a dark-red chunk a couple inches long and about a centimeter wide. I was pretty horrified, because while I sometimes have chunky period blood, I've never had anywhere near that huge of a chunk! I ended up throwing it in the toilet.

I felt more of the same stuff at the entrance of my vagina, but I couldn't pull it out. After some wiggling, flexing, and waiting, I ended up getting out two more chunks that were even bigger. (They landed where the water was spraying in the shower, but they didn't break up, WTF. I had to pick them up and throw them away.) After the third one I couldn't feel anything else at the vagina entrance, so hopefully that's all of them...

I tried to google this and found that it might be a large chunk of uterine lining, but the pictures people posted of their uterine lining looked different. Also smaller, in most cases.

So how freaked out should I be? Should I go to the doctor again?

Background info:

--I've never been pregnant before, and there's no way I was pregnant leading up to this. So it's definitely not a miscarriage.

--I think my last normal period was back in like September or something. After that my period got really light in October, was late in November, then I had small amounts of bleeding in between expected periods. By the time late December came around, I was bleeding every single day, to varying degrees. My doctor and gyncologist ran tons of tests, but they couldn't figure out what was wrong, and by this time it was two and half months of daily bleeding. So they told me to take a birth control pill. (The pill in question is Natazia, btw.)

--I just took day 28 of the pill this morning. I've had minor lower abdominal pain off and on all month, as well as an increase in depression. (The depression might be a coincidence.) The bleeding actually started on day 23, even though this kind of birth control only has two days of inert pills. But the last two days (pills 26 and 27) I've had heavy blood flow, horrible cramping, and vomiting. It's normal for me to have a lot of pain and nausea (back before my periods got wonky last year), but it's normally only about five hours out of the whole month, not two and a half days! And it's never been this severe either.

--Because of the pain and vomiting, I stayed home from work today and went to the doctor.... She said it wasn't an uncommon reaction to the birth control. We discussed my options and I decided to keep taking the birth control and try preventative measures against next month's pain. (I'm worried if I don't start the next pack of pills, I'm just going to keep bleeding and bleeding.) But that was before these scary things came out of me. Now I'm even more scared to keep taking these pills. Could the huge chunks be the cause of the pain?

--Here are the test results I remember. They did a blood test for everything under the sun and found my testosterone was weirdly high but everything else was normal. (After another month of bleeding, they did another check on my iron, which was a little low, but not too alarming.) The transvaginal ultrasound was normal but found a small fibroid on the outside of my uterus. Pap test was normal. The GYN didn't find anything weird in the manual pelvic exam either. All three pregnancy tests that I had to take even though I'm "not sexually active" were negative, obviously.

Thanks for any info you might have. I'm gonna go get a drink... greensad.gif

Your endometrial lining is shedding in chunks, not pieces. Probably quite normal or may be a sign of endometriosis.
