what is your preferred dictation software or app?

Ds really struggles with writing.  His teachers say he has very good verbal answers, but they answers never really make it to his written work.  He types even less than he writes.  In his iep, he can dictate for longer assignments.  I was thinking maybe if he could use something like Siri or Dragon Naturally Speaking he might be able to "write".   His teachers are open to the idea. Has anyone had any luck with dictation software or able to use successfully with kids in school?  If so, what program(s) are the best?

My middle son sounds a lot like yours.  He uses dragon software at home.  He will have to work with it a bit before it works well for him.  But at this point, he loves it somuch.  It's made a huge difference in his confidence.  At school, he's learning how to type and use a word prediction program.  I can't remember the name of it though, but it seems really succesful for him.

We are going to give Dragon a try. I am really glad your ds has had success using it.  I hope it does not take to long for ds to get the hang of it because he looses interest when things are hard, sometimes.  I have Dragon on my ipad and I always called it dubious dictation because it I never trained it, and it generally gave me jibberish.  DId your ds have to read to it to train it? 

 We talked it over with his neuro, who I felt was not so helpful.  He does not like Dragon specifically because he tried to use it for dictation of his notes.  He wants ds to get a pen pal and try to write stories. If only it were that easy.   I hope when we go to his next neuro appointment, we can have his program trained and he can give him a story written with Dragon or something like it.
