minimalist shoes for toddlers...huaraches/open toe sandals?

I'm not sure where to post this...feel free to move it or point me to a different forum if there's a better fit.  I'm trying to find minimalist sandals for my 6 YO, 3.5 YO, and 1.5 YO.  I'm planning on getting these http://www.unshoesminimalfootwear.com/pahtempe.html Pah Tempeh by Unshoes minimalist sandals for my 6 YO.  I'd prefer closed toe sandals for the younger two but I'm having trouble finding some that don't cost a fortune (like $50 which is too much...$35 is my limit).  I bought a pair of like new See Kai Run closed toe sandals off Ebay for my 3.5 YO, but they are too big.  There's a big size jump between the 8s and 9s and his toes right by the end of the 8s but the 9s have a full thumb width of extra room and he's tripping on them frequently.  So it's back to the drawing board.  I'm considering just getting a pair of the Pah Tempeh shoes for my 3.5 YO as well.  Are open toed sandals a really bad idea for this age?  He's super active and climbs like a monkey.  He's going to be barefoot most of the time, but needs sandals for going places, going on walks, and riding his trike.  I'd go with Soft Star sandals but DH doesn't like the look.  Oh and they all have wide feet so it's even harder to find minimalist shoes to fit them.

You way want to check http://www.invisibleshoe.com

There are sizes that are a better fit for a 6 year old, and at a way better price.

You may find the right size for a 3.5 YO as well.
