Placenta?

Whatcha gonna do with yours?

I know we have an encapsulation thread already, but there are so many things you can do with it.  Prints, lotus birth, smoothies, planting, and on and on...

So I'm just curious what you're planning.

Right now I'm planning to encapsulate most of it, but we're going to reserve a chunk for planting.  I planted DS1's and DS's is still in the freezer to be planted.  So I feel like I have to plant this baby's too.

And my MW and I agreed yesterday that she's going to make me a smoothie pp.  If she feels like I need it, she'll include a chunk of placenta in it.  But she's not to tell me if she does.

We still have my son's in the freezer, so our plan is to plant my son's and daughter's together. We will probably do this in the woods behind our house this summer.

Gonna encapsulate!  I wish I had last time, but I didn't even get to see it.

I will probably do a placenta print and then maybe donate it for midwives to study? I don't know. We use to just donate to search and rescue but thats not an option out here.

We'll most likely give it to the midwives.  One lives on a farm and said she uses them to plant things.  She also suggested donating it to search and rescue, which I really like the idea of.  I doubt we'll keep it though.  We don't have anywhere to plant it, and SO is grossed out by the idea of keeping it in the freezer.

Search and rescue was awesome. I really liked the idea that the placenta was able to help train the dogs to save people and felt it was a really awesome way to use it. Its too bad there isnt anything like that around here.

I plant mine. Although in reality it is just me burying it as I don't plant it with anything....although I have always liked the idea of planting a tree with it and the tree could grow up with the child. But since my first two children were not homebirths, I didn't want to have them feel left out by not having a special tree.....and if we moved I would want to take the tree with me and depending on how big it was, then that may not be possible. And if I killed the tree (haven't been know for my green thumb...lol) then I would feel horrible!
So I just buried it =S
Maybe this time I will get gutsy and plant a tree with it.....if I knew the landlord wouldn't pluck it up if we moved!

Oh and with my second birth which was a birthing center. I donated the cord blood. They may have donated the placenta too...don't know for sure.

Wait. Sorry I am being dense here but what do you all mean by donating placenta to search and rescue? I'm definitely interested but I don't think I completely understand. Thanks!

They use the placenta to train search and rescue dogs, since it has the smell of human blood.

Maybe find something local for you there Rozzie/Rio?

I don't know, the midwives in my area were always the ones who did the hookup...
